The Germans used to call the Sherman tank "Tommy Cookers". We supplied the Brits with them to test against the Panzers. In most cases, the Panzers won. By the end of the war, there were just too many Shermans to kill them all, and the Soviets had an equal if not superior tank as compared to the Jerry's.

In Japan? My question too. It seemed as if Japan was already beat before the A bomb runs. Makes me question the history about this.

@Old Guys Place : The entry of Russia into the frey was more decisive than the bombs. Eisenhower and most of the military brass said it wasnt necessary. And the statistics you can cite are all hypothetical and invoke worst case scenarios as if Japan was luckier than an Irish leprechaun. Potential death counts are all imaginary and only someone equally insane as HST ever invokes them. It was more to cow the USSR than defeat Japan.
