    I think the F-14’s RWR sounds are probably my favorite out of all the sounds. It actually sound like you’ve got a problem on your hands.

    F-15s seem the most ergonomic. Being locked etc is not too loud or annoying beeping. You can also distinguish multiple radars in search mode. When you're fired at, the once per 5 second reminder is the best since there is a RWR blindspot which may make you think that you're in the clear when it can't just see the missile. The F14 and Russian ones are continuously beeping, but when you dodge and the radar is in the RWR blind spot, the continuous sound is turned off, may make you think you're in the clear.

    The mig-21bis RWR is very sparse, it indicates the position of the radar pointing your aircraft with the diodes (one for each sector, front left, front right, rear left, rear right) and with a beep a second more or less. It shows multiple radars by alternating between them (one blink and a beep on the front left followed by a blink and a beep on the rear right for example). When the a radar is tracking you the RWR light up all four diodes and emit one long beep no matter how many radar are locking you or where they are. The four red "unused" diodes are in fact the red translucent cover responsible for dimming the RWR lights when turned into position.

    The RWR volume knob is on the bottom left panel about where the pilots left elbow is. Top left knob of 6 iirc. That said, do you have the helmet sound selected in the sound menu? If not then I highly recommend doing so since it reduces the engine noise and makes cockpit sounds louder so it's a lot easier to hear the RWR

    That is the downside of the F/A-18. The RWR is also controlled by the helmet audio, so when you turn down your radio calls, it turns down the RWR too.

    @@WyvernFalken I was talking more about the toggle not the sounds, since you can hit that and it makes environmental sounds quieter while making cockpit sounds louder. And you can turn down the radio volume by just turning down or off the radios with the two knobs on the front control panel

    in real life is it possible to create the same frequencies as a missile launch with just a radar to scare the absolute fuck out of planes? I imagine that could be so useful, making enmy planes think they are being shot at, and when they really are shot at not know if its real unless they get visual contact.

    Mig21 seems to give a Launch warning from airborne threats since the sound gets very short and quick interuptions. it also seems to identify ground from air radars, air radars have longer intervals and air radars a shorter one, so for example 1 beep every 2 seconds for ground radar search and 1 beep every 1 second for air radar search

    How does an aircraft's systems know if something has been launched at it? Especially if it's being guided by the radar that's tracking it as opposed to a missile's own built in radar system? Just curious what the system is looking for to determine if a missile is heading your way.

  • @CuriousNikhil

    @CuriousNikhil

    2 жыл бұрын

    The subject of a radar lock-on may become aware of the fact that it is being actively targeted by virtue of the electromagnetic emissions of the tracking system, that is the radar, notably the illuminator. This condition will alert the pilot via a detection system in the [[aircraft]]. It indicates that a missile may be about to be fired at it.

    @@CuriousNikhil Oh okay, so like...plane sees the radar...fine. Plane sees something changes...okay, plane being tracked, fine...but if something further changes after it knows it is being tracked, maybe not fine? A few quick snapshots of the conditions of the signal and a general theory of orders of operations related to ground-based radar and ground-to-air defense gives a mighty good guess they've sent stuff your way if something changes while plane = in range and plane = has not taken fire yet?

  • @20ZZ20

    @20ZZ20

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@angryzergling7832 How exactly RWR tracks missile launches etc. is most likely a military secret in terms of specifics. RWR systems most likely have a database of exact signals that they are looking for coming from various enemy systems to differentiate. But generally, once the missile has been launched, the SAM site or plane is sending specific guidance commands to the missile itself which is detected as the 'launch'. The RWR can detect this change and identify as launch. Some missiles are semi active and switch to active radar and when they switch this on and guide themselves they can be detected by the RWR and then the system knows it has launched and on the way to you. Some missiles launches might not be detectable by radar e.g. IR guided and the emissions from the missile e.g. IR/UV are detected and fed into the RWR by another system MAW and jets such as the A10 have this and therefore can try to detect IR guided missiles.

    25:15 In MiG-21, actually you get a useless SPO-10 RWR, it only gives you the bearing of the radar when in search mode by giving you the lights, once they lock you and even launch at you, what you get only all lights light up without giving you any direction of the launch so, they are useless, in multiplayer match, you can have two enemy, painting you in the left and the other guy TWS launch from the right, and the bottom line, you lose your situational awareness And this comment also my excuse for being a bad mig-21 pilot lol :p

    Just a thought...not that anyone listens...but I'm new to DCS, but I am a private pilot...and some of the things i have seen and heard from a number of people who claim to offer help...really bug the crap out of me. It seems that you guys forgot that you are offering "help"; which means that the people who are listening to you don't have the time or experience with DCS...that is the same time you have. Personally, I suspect a number of you...grim, sidewinder, wags, etc...work for DCS; or did at one time. So, before I begin let it be known that I have tons of respect for my brothers who live across the pond; but some of you speak with a thick Manchester accent...so understanding you in simple conversation is difficult. So could you please slow down when you are speaking...this is not a race...its a tutorial or instructional...and if you want to reach out to everyone effectively...slow down. In addition, as you talk could you please use the cursor to highlight the components you are talking about or using. More often than not you are using the abbreviations, and when you combine the abbreviations with the speed in which you talk...the new guys have fallen behind before you begin. So please slow down, and ensure you are visually queuing the components that you are talking about...so the rest of us get it. I'm new Grim...but you will be seeing me on the field...Bad JuJu or Train Wreck.
