It’s better to heat into shaft instead of on the side so it does not weaken the shaft and heat gun preferably.

Has nothing to do with protecting the blade. That guy that responded doesn’t have a clue. More wraps. More friction to catch the puck. You could use wide or thin tape if you overlap it halfway it’s still the same protection.
The only guys you see taping their sticks toe to heel are Europeans and French guys.
