Columbia protests occupy Hamilton Hall. Will NYPD be called to respond?
Columbia University says a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators have taken over Hamilton Hall. The NYPD is standing by off campus but has not yet been called in. Hear from CBS News Law Enforcement Contributor and former NYPD Deputy Commissioner Richard Esposito about how law enforcement will respond.

Close the university. No classes. No graduation. The semester is over. Damage should be pay. Parents should be responsible for the students.
These are just a bunch spoiled brats from rich families that don't know anything about the real world..
What about the rights of law abiding students at Columbia? What about them? What about Jewish students having to be unsafe at their own school.

It's also common from past anti-war protests at Columbia(as they mentioned here) of protestors taking over Hamilton Hall
Which Halls have been named after all the Israeli children who were butchered on Oct 7 and deliberately targeted.
Just expel them. And the non-students prosecute to the full extent. This kid glove thing is why we are talking about this a week later?

US students' protests against genocides caried on by Israel in West Bank and Gaza will not happen if US government is controlled by China. This is because China does not guarantee freedom of expression, but you can freely express your concern about Israel atrocities against Palestinian people (anti semitic). On the contrary, in US you can speak freely as long as it is not about Israel atrocities against Palestinian people (anti semitic).

about 6 students peacefully gathered and started protesting, but then Columbia presidents called cops to handle the situation. They used unnecessy force to the students and start arresting them. This disproportionate use of police force is how Columbia messed up and aggravated the whole situation. If you know one thing about universities, it is about final season and then summer break. If they just let the student sing and yell clapping on songs, it would have been over in a week or two at best.

@@jebbrown5961 I meant all of this chaos started from unncessarily harsh response of the president, when it was a small number of students. You may want to also check how Berkeley reacts to the protest. The university spoke person (or vice president) said, 'all action invites reactions', and that police involvement is not considered unless it is absolutely needed. Campus protest is not unusual thing to see. But it is always the cops unncessary reaction that makes it worse- one thing Berkeley understands and Columbia failed to do so. You also should know that your priority is for the lawn over Democracy. May be you can say that you care about private property, but how much did you care about police inaction against looting businesses? Take some time to think about yourself.

@@ppark61 Princeton had the best response. Lots of speech but not camping allowed. It’s not hard to balance the ability of the school to function (not crush others right to speak) and right for special protest speech. The protesters are authoritarian and drown out every other student and school function. There used to be a lawn but now it’s just dirt ($$$$). I mentioned “lawn” as the goal needs to be eliminating camping and the lawns are camp location. There can be no free speech after a mob has taken over. All politics will rocket rightward as a consequence just like 1968. Everyone will suffer as a result. It will be worse for Gaza too.

The news needs to run the old live feed news footage from the twin tower attacks when the Palestinians claimed responsibility for it. Or how the Palestinians handed out candies and cheered as the towers fell.

🇺🇲🥺The elite of our students are applying what they studied in college regarding values, humanity, and justice. They are applying what they studied theoretically, and now they are applying it practically through demonstrations for human rights and human justice. Look, teachers, these students do not need a college degree. What they are doing now is the greatest testimony to their learning, memorization, and application of what they have studied with all their hearts While old Biden is implementing Netanyahu’s orders, yes he is implementing the orders of gangs and mafia in killing children and women and selling weapons. This is the difference between the educated and the uneducated

Hard facts. 1968 protest empowered the American right by delivering 7 more years of Vietnam, 2 terms of Nixon, and an endless Drug war-prison industrial complex. That’s what violent protest actually produces.
