Colton wasn't even an option like what are you doing bachelor producers??

When he says, he can't give her what she wants, its because he is not in love her and people pressured him to be with tia (ex. Bibi). Give him a chance to find love his way.

Really bummed. Something about him won't let me like him.

I like Colton, but I can't handle a whole season of virgin jokes. I'm also afraid that because he is young most of the women on his season will be super young and immature.

The storyline for Colton is overplayed and people are sick of it. Also people would have mostly been perfectly fine with Blake or Jason. Colton was the one person people didn’t want

Sorry! but I don’t think that Colton is ready to date anyone. Apparently he’s not understanding his own self. When he did break up with, I thought I saw a slight smile on his face before and after the break up so he makes me wonder. I think Colton truly does not make sense I would’ve liked it if it would’ve been Jason the next bachelor.

He was not into Tia. It’s just that simple. He could not give her what he deserved because he knew he was not into her. He is not having sex so his mind is clear....despite the pressure. Tia should have left him alone when he broke up with her to go on the Bachelorette. He liked her...just not romantically. Colton was just being nice and did not want to hurt her. Raven was absolutely correct when she told Tia that Colton was not into her and Tia chose not to listen. Raven knows how it feels to be in a relationship with a man that truly loves her. Tia should stop with her sour grapes. He was decisive...he chose to move on...that was his decision. He is age appropriate for the Bachelor. The last solid Bachelor was Sean Lowe who is happily married and thriving. Interestingly, he also chose celibacy. The Bachelor producers are not idiots. They are over unsuccessful Bachelor pairings. The Bachelorette franchise is much more successful.

It looks like Colton is just seeking fame - or something. Colton obviously was paid to do BIP and so was Tia. Watch their final breakup - it’s a total act. I actually think it’s more than Colton is a virgin - I think he’s confused about something much more serious than whether he’s ready to get married. Hint: this really could be the most ‘dramatic’ bachelor of all time.

AK Sonya Please elaborate!! I'd love to hear your pros for him. I myself thought Becca should have sent him home at the beggining when she found out about Tia. Then I liked him by the time she sent him home. But after not contacting Tia until they were on the show together and then breaking up with her for no reason at all, I feel he is SHADY. Love to hear a different perspective though.

No no no no!! This is the worst choice! I’m so sad. There are soooo many better choices. I’m so over Colton. I’m sure at some point this season we will see Tia AGAIN! I just can’t! BLAH!

There is something off about Colton. I think he is hungry for fame. Today they annouced that he is the bachelor and his instagram story only haves things about his charaty and merch. So disappointed on them choosing Colton, he just doesn't seem that ready imo.

A whole season watching Colton cry... nor excited at all...

I don’t agree with the decision. I am extremely disappointed and turned-off with #thebachelor. I’ve been a huge fan for years now, and as a woman in my early 30s, I refuse to invest my time watching an immature kid try to find love. He is not ready. I even dare to say he might have doubts with his sexuality. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I just don’t think he should be put in the position and women who are joining this season to date him should not be exposed to that either. Dating is hard enough IRL, I can only imagine how it would go down in the public eye. I don’t like this at all, producers should take back their decision PRONTO!

I have been thinking the same thing! Even if it's not his parents intention, I dare say this is possible when he thinks of his dad as a coach. He already put pressure on himself to lie about his virginity to team mates.....could there be more? No need to break a bunch hearts on the way.

Why is everybody so intent on forcing the "Colton-Tia" thing? What he meant by "give her what she deserves" is that he isn't crazy about her. She deserves to be with someone that is crazy about her! I get it. He's actually a really good guy with a big heart. Give him a chance. He should have the experience of the bachelor.... We all know this guy needs experience!!!

NO NO NO!! *cries* why Colton!? Why??! Maybe his feelings for Tia and Becca were genuine but I don’t like how he rode out Bachelorette and Paradise just to be the Bachelor. Let’s be real... he stayed with Tia to stay relevant on tv. This upsets me because Tia is gorgeous and so down to earth! She deserves the world!!

Colton is a huge disappointment. It seems he tossed Tia for this opportunity he can't pass up for pure fame. He's too young and not experienced in love to even know what he's looking for. It will take years as he is a virgin, to finally date people and it takes time, not weeks, maybe even years for this particular guy.

My husband and I just celebrated 31 years...love at first sight...dated and married within 3 months! So he will definitely find the love of his life! I agree Tia was not taking the massive hint that Colton was not really into her but that begs the question of what he was doing on Paradise in the first place. He seems to have spent the past year just auditioning for the Bachelor with Tia alternating between being a roadblock and a vehicle to get there.

ARGH. I think Colton seems like a good guy overall, but it seems like the producers care more about ratings, than the actual fans. It's like they're trying to cast the classically chiseled stud, to cater to the generics of what women typically want, vs. what the FANS want... which is JASON OR BLAKE!!! At the point where Colton broke up with Tia, he must have already been talking to producers, and knew he was in the running for Bachelor. Bottom line seems to be that Colton didn't want to miss his opportunity to be the next Bachelor. He also seems to want to publicize his charity, which I guess is good for the charity, but... it's still annoying. I don't think he's going to find anyone better for him, than Tia. Now I want Tia to be the next Bachelorette. I guess this is a good thing for me overall, because I don't really have a lot of time for TV, and if they'd cast Jason or Blake, I absolutely would have watched. But now that I know it's Colton, I can be content with just getting the occasional updates on KZread from Lauren Zima.

Everybody goes on abt him being pressured into a relationship with Tia but that's completely ridiculous. A grown up should've been able to say no, i'm not feeling you like that instead of stringing someone along. Can you imagine his wishy washy ways with 30 women? Is he gonna give them all roses every episode because he's afraid to hurt someone and stand up for himself? No serious girl can agree to be in this season with him as the bachelor.

Colton is such a dud personality-wise I couldn't believe he even made it into Becca's top four. I rolled my eyes with Tia last night saying "he's such a great guy". I am sure he is a wonderful human being - loves kids, dogs, etc. But he is clearly not a great catch at the moment for a woman looking to get married and start a family. The bachelor should know what he wants and be able to navigate relationships with 20+ women and all we've seen so far from Colton is total confusion and inexperience with women.

Am very disappointed in ABC decision for this season...what in the world is going on? ABC. You have real man that are ready to the the Bachelor... colton is very indecisive and not ready to commit to anyone....

I dont particularly love Colton, however... Why does everyone assume that because he isn't feeling it with Tia, he isn't ready for a real relationship with someone whom he actually loves? I'm just so, so sick of hearing everyone obsess about his situation with Tia. He never, ever seemed that taken with her, and literally all of the discussion around him lately has centered around how he has acted with Tia. Who cares? He wasn't that into her, end of story. It wasn't him creating the drama around the two of them, it was everyone on BiP and everyone watching. It's just absurd. I don't love Colton but it is nonsense that everyone is drawing these massive conclusions based on his reticence to seal the deal with Tia, who has been in a totally unrequited obsession with him for a while - it is BS to think that falls on his shoulders.

Ok Im pretty sure it is because he knows someone in the production team that is why he got the gig.

This show is about finding love and getting married. Colton seems like a great human being. I just dont understand choosing him as the bachelor. Drama just followed him both shows. I had to fast forward him and tia in BIP i couldnt handle them another second. He is not ready.. in a few years he would be a great pick. But not now. Jason or blake were so there for love. I think everyone’s comments are really harsh and I truly don’t understand why everyone is being so cruel towards Colten. It’s not like he’s some loser guy. If you ask me, he’s kind, handsome, has great morals and would make for a great husband.

I was literally okay with anyone being the Bachelor BESIDES Colton. I will not be watching..

The whole reason he broke up was not because he didn’t know what he wanted it’s that he knew he couldn’t love Tia the way she deserves to be love because he just didn’t feel she was the one for him. Like in the beginning the whole reason he was hesitant in dating her was because he didn’t know if he would be able to love he because he didn’t know if he could ever have feelings for her like that. It’s not that he wasn’t mature enough to love it’s that he couldn’t love Tia like she loved him. And that why he said he couldn’t give her what she deserved.

Nooooooooooooo! Please tell me this is #fakenews !?! I have no problem with the guy, he seems sweet and genuine. However, it seems like the show is exploiting this poor human who clearly needs a lot of time away from the cameras to figure himself out. He has so much potential to be a terrific bachelor in the future but; it feels like the show is milking him. It makes me feel so sorry for all the girls who have entered. If the ladies desire a partner who can challenge them to be the best version of themselves, it doesn't seem like they are going to find it in him, yet. Poor Colton seems to really need time to figure out who the best version of Colten is. My heart breaks for the guy. I really hope he isn't finding his identity in the affirmation of the decision makers at the network.

I think it's really sad how negative everyone is being, I am not always thrilled with their choice but that doesn't mean I will tear down the bachelor/bachelorette. Colton is young but I think he will do a great job. Some of these statements are really sexists; if Colton were a woman people wouldn't be questioning why she waited or call her gay.

I can see it now, Colton picks what he brags to be his soulmate, goes on dancing with the stars where she joyfully cheers on Colton and then not long after unless there is another reality show, the couple breaks up. I'm already ahead of the spoilers! lol Yes, we tried to make it work, Colton says. But it didn't work out! For the first time ever, I plan on skipping next season's bachelor! This is a horrible pick.

Arie did not have an interesting timeline either. They just had to conjure up things to make us like him. Gooooooood...!!!!! It should've been Peter Krause ..

But Arie was a fan favorite on his season. He was the initial choice before they switched to Sean Lowe. Arie was quirky, funny, charming and sexy too on his season. A lot of moms were still rooting for him when he was picked the Bachelor last year

Sorry in advance for the length of this post... lol. I really do not think age matters. It depends on when you choose to make marriage a priority in life the same way others make career their priority (which I did). He has always been honest about his feelings the entire time. He did clearly fall in love with Becca, but the show brought so much attention to him and Tia. He went on a weekend date with Tia before the bachelorette, which became a huge topic during his time with Becca, and then a huge topic and pressure for BIP. Without publically giving her an honest effort ppl would always question if he still had feelings for Tia (only bc she was a former contestant), he didn't even know how he truly felt about her because on paper she has a lot of great qualities but he didn't feel it to be a natural relationship for him. He played it out well and gave it an honest chance without real world drama reflecting on their relationship during BIP. At the end of it, he just wasn't in love with her, but he was in love with Becca before so he knows what love feels like to him. He deserves to be the bachelor and the chance find his person. He is a genuine person with a huge heart, a lot of passion at bringing joy to others, and he deserves to find the right person to go on the journey of life with him. At the end of the day, the world wanted him and Tia to be together, he gave it an honest effort but simply was not in love her and felt guilty because she is great just not great for him. He is the new bachelor. We should leave Tia in the past, embrace everything else he has to offer by moving forward and stop looking in the rearview mirror with Tia. Btw, I really wanted Jason to be the next bachelor... so I am not saying all of this because he was my choice. Just tired of hearing that he isn't ready because he wasn't into Tia before he went on the Bachelorette or after, but he did however treat her with complete respect and gave it an honest chance. And as for the virginity topic, it has played out as well. And by continuing to focus on it only makes it the focal point and over shadows everything else he has to offer. His efforts with CF, the fact that he is secure enough to show other young people that even being a professional football player or reality TV star has imperfections, he continues to stay real to himself and inspires others to do same. The question is, will he able to find the person that he is genuinely gravitated to without the influence of others or making his own decisions without doing what everyone tells him to do or pleasing other people? Will he truly to honest with himself in his final decision? Only time will tell! It will be fun to see what his villain is like and how she will play with his decision process. Also, the type of dates he choose to help him figure out who will bring out the best or worst version of him.

Blah! Unquestionably, the most boring parts of 'Bachelor in Paradise', are EVERYTHING to do with the Colton/Tia shitshow. I feel like we missed out on a lot of Kevin/Astrid earlier on, and now instead of the 30 minute plug every 2nd episode for Tia /Colton, we could have learned what exactly happened with John and Jubilee; and maybe there were problems with the other cast, just wanting to leave because they weren't getting much air time (Jubilee and Kenny), because they spent too much time on the Colton/Tia nonsense; sadly still better TV than the Corinne/DeMario garbage that was unnecessarily dragged out over WAY too many episodes last year. I mean, seriously, Tia was smiling while crying - so I'm under the impression that she's the next 'Bachelorette' too? There were so many 'other' interesting things going on this season, that I would have loved to dive into, but like we really NEEDED to see them go on two dates? I think that of the 5, this past season was the best one (and it's not done yet!), but they should have pulled the plug on the Tia/Colton show as soon as they could have.Giving Colton the 'Bachelor' spot, sets a bad precedence for the show, with people just overdramatizing their air-time, to land those spots - like Tia and Colton did - even more obviously than say, Peter Kraus from Rachel's season. On another note, are making up social problems here, with a good looking and blessed guy like Colton, having to come out that he's actually a virgin? At one point, historically, was this ever a thing for a guy to be ashamed about (other than a bunch of lying teens saying that they have gobs of experience)? And since when do girls look down on a guy, who doesn't have previous experience - I would think that would be a plus for some woman - especially since the guy is a good-looking guy? Does this angle even make any sense?On another note, I wish that they'd just give Jordan his own show. Not the 'Bachelor', I mean, he own sitcom.

I agree with you Lauren; the franchise's narrow-minded focus on whether someone will absolutely get engaged upfront ironically cheapens their framing of the show as a "quest for love." The Bachelor franchise always feels about 5 years behind cultural trends, including choosing Colton - the cookie-cutter image of a Bachelor lead.

Jason would have been sincere and genuine and I think he'd be great to date; but I think people would complain that his season is boring. I think it'll be interesting to see if everyone's disdain of Colton being the bachelor turns around once the show airs and if people wind up enjoying his season after all. People hating this idea of Colton so much leaves more room to love his season, down the line...

I think you hit upon the narrative’s cliff hanger, at the end of your terrific discussion: “Will Colton lose his virginity on The Bachelor?” Colton’s being described as easy to work with, vs Blake who’s saying he wasn’t going to change who he is to become Bachelor. Proof it’s all about playing a role to satisfy producers. Colton may not be sexually experienced but he was, in the past, sent in by coaches to play the game, has had to act a sexist “player” in order to prevent bullying in the locker room; & twice now, he’s proved he can bring on the tears on screen.

Whaaaaaa? Not a good move abc/warner.
