Colt Woodsman Match Target .22lr 3rd Gen Field Strip, Clean, and Wax

I put about 600 rounds of 22lr through this before cleaning it. This Woodsman was manufactured around the mid 70s and its in terrific shape and shoots like a dream.
I "field strip" it by removing the slide to clean the rails and internals a bit better, as well as taking off the grips to clean and protect it from corrosion.

    Thanks for the informative video. I have a 1962 Match Target handed down to me by my father and your video was a great help in field stripping the gun, something I've never done since it's not been used since I inherited it. It'll get used occasionally now but plan to keep it in good shape for the next person who inherits it.

    Hey a great 3rd gen replace magazine is the mag for a beratta neos. You only have to mod them by cutting a small square notch out of the back of the plastic mag base to mate with the heel catch!!! Save the original tombstone mag which is worth $110+ used!!!😂😂

    Help....came apart as video described. Put back as described but something isn't quite right. Does the Sear Spring slip into the little slot in the handle. It looks like it's designed to fit in that slot. OR does it just slip under the Hammer Strut and stay completely inside the handle?

    I am having trouble assembling the my colt Matched Target. Several times I put the main spring just like you in the video. Very frustrating. What is the secrete???

  • @kailua808

    @kailua808

    4 жыл бұрын

    No secret really, but it takes a little finesse to get all the pieces to line up while reassembling, as they tend to fall out of position easily. The small tab on the mainspring should fit into the notch on the frame, and the spur-type thing (cant remember the name off the top of my head) attached to the hammer should be pointed down and resting on top of the mainspring as it sits in the frame. Then take the backstrap/mainspring housing piece and slide it up into the frame to secure the spring - there will be some resistance doing this but you should not have to force it or manhandle it in. Good luck!

    Hey Paul! I've kept several of my hundred-plus-year old pistols going bang off ebay and numrich gun parts. For the woodsman, original parts are getting expensive and rare but these are sweet pistols. If its complete I would not hesitate. Just be a judge on condition and use your cell phone flashlight to check out the barrel. If it comes with original mags that's HUGE as these are expensive AF! GL! @@lescouse nice score! You won't regret owning it. And regarding repairs, these guns are over engineered for the .22lr round in my opinion. Aside from heavy abuse (not use), you will likely only ever need to replace a spring or two (which are not that expense or hard to find) in your lifetime. Even ones that have been abused badly seem to keep on ticking. I have one in my collection that was made in 1953 and clearly has had a rough life and it fires perfectly. I haven't had to replace anything on it since I bought it. I also have one from 1938 that was not abused but is well used, runs like a top. I have replaced a few springs just to be safe but that is it.
