@@77-xj3fw8pi8k this is actually 100% correct. It's really sad because plenty of tribes DID have what it took but couldn't get it through their tribal enemies thick heads. There's a tale of Sitting Bull doing a sacrificial type ceremony where God spoke to him through the sun after days of blood loss and dancing. He said "you will survive and WIN if you do the simplest act of not picking up the Europeans weapons and using them." He told his people, many ignored him (obviously out of fear/arrogance) and they lost, and supposedly Sitting Bull never spoke again because they didn't listen anyway when it was of utmost importance. You look at the American Revolution. You look at the German Tribes versus the Roman's. Each time an unstoppable force invaded, the ONLY way to evem survive let alone win, was to unite with those who were formerly your enemies, sometimes for centuries before. That will be difficult, scary, and dangerous in its own right. But it's the only way. Go kill THEIR chieftains and get it through their farking heads that this is life or death, and you're not going to let ignorant tribalism be what decides your fate.

That was how guns worked for a long time. Before pre-packaged powder and primer caps this was an abysmally slow process. Despite that, they were still very useful on the battlefield, but they did require special tactics and formations to exploit. Up until muskets though guns were used in formal armies alongside pikes, swords, bows, and crossbows. Samurai trained everyday (or were supposed to) with bow, sword, pole arms, and guns, also with large wooden clubs reinforced with iron studs or ribs.

Because back in the day, killing a single person was a lot of work, so the reloading wasn't seen as tedious at all. In fact compared to melee it is a helluva lot less work. Today a single soldier has the ability to go through hundreds of enemy soldiers before having to resupply, but instead 200,000 rounds are fired for each neutralized enemy combatant is the average.

@richardelliott9511

@slavicemperor8279 I mean no disrespect and challenge you to present any hard evidence to support your claim. I believe that this entire line of thought has been exaggerated due to the depiction in Pale Rider and that spare cylinders are so readily available today and they can be installed with little or no fitting required. The circumstances back in the day were far different. Remington, during their conversion period, did sell conversion cylinders as accessories and new gun sales were available with both percussion and conversion cylinders, which did provide a source of spare cylinders but if every one had 3 or 4 spare cylinders were are they today. Certainly a large number ought to have servived. I have been told of the existence of one Civil War photo that shows one Union general wearing a holster bearing a pouch that " must have held a spare cylinder", as evidence that "they all had them". There are other obstacles to spare cylinders being common too, not the least of which would be the cost of it all. Most common folks would not have the income to support such expensive armament. Only the best and most well paid hired gunmen of the era would have had the money and need for such firepower and how many of them were there really. Not nearly the number that Hollywood would like us to believe. The other question I have is how practicle is changing a cylinder out in the middle of a fight in the first place. I submit that in the middle of a melee fight, which is what handguns are designed for, you will most likely be cut down and killed while you are trying to get that fresh cylinder into play. Ypu would be far better off to flip the gun over as a club or drop it and pull a knife. ...

@richardelliott9511

Ypu would be far better off to flip the gun over as a club or drop it and pull a knife. ...
