    This is fantastic. Many tutorials are very discouraging for beginners. When you just start colouring, and then someone whips tons of colours out a 150 set of Prismacolor or 120 Polychromos set and starts talking about realism and paying attention to where light falls...you just get a little overwhelmed.

    Thank you for this tutorial Johanna! I'm new to coloring and since I bought Ivy (my first book from you) I haven't wanted to color in anything else I have! I want to make it look so nice, I'm numbering my pictures so I can see how much progress I'm making as a colorist (I only have about 4 months under my belt lol). I am picking up some of your other books as well. I find them relaxing, and a beautiful place to escape to with all the craziness in life. It's so kind of you to show us tips to help us improve and bring your works to life! ♥

    I forgot about the colorless blender pencils, wow, that is so pretty! I wish my pencil tips did not break off so much when I apply pressure (the Faber Castell Polychromos). People complain about the "waxy bloom" of Prismacolor or other wax based pencils but the tips seem to stay pointy longer with them! Thank you so much!

  • @mchobbit2951

    @mchobbit2951

    4 жыл бұрын

    I heard a lot of Prismacolor praise, but never that they break less than other pencils. And keep a point longer? They are so soft, it seems impossible that they would stay pointy longer than a hard pencil. Either you have fake Polychromos or it's something you are doing. They don't handle like Prismacolor. Are you actually rotating the pencil to keep a point rather than constantly sharpening? You might also be using a sharpener that just isn't great for them.

My only complaint is I can't get the full set of Staedtler colored pencils here in the USA. That's no biggie though, I just make do with the pencils I've got. 🤗

    Thanks for the video. I always appreciate your tips and tutorials. I'm curious about why you chose to use a watercolor pencil on the pink flower if you weren't planning on adding water. Were you going for a particular effect? It is nice to see that the pencils can pull double-duty and work dry as well as wet, but I'm wondering if there was any other reason.

    Watercolor pencils are softer than normal ones, and the colors are very vibrant when dry. They are easy to blend, but not very good for layering.

    I'm just curious why you used a watercolor pencil for that one flower if you weren't going to use water? I have several of your coloring books and they are by far the most beautiful ones I own. I have one of the artist edition coloring books, The Secret Garden, and I haven't colored in it because I'm almost afraid to! I'm thinking of using my watercolor pencils in the first one I do and maybe even acrylics with another medium along with it, maybe. I love your videos and your books and that the artist edition are of the quality to be framed, which makes me more nervous.

    I just love your book and your doodles... do you hold any give always or contests?? (No no, not contest, I suck super bad so for sure I'll never win those.LOL!!! Giveaways though!!!😉☺️ one way or another your book WILL BE MINE.... someday anyways 😍) This is probably a weird question but is there really that big of a difference in colored pencils? Like the ones you're using here compared to crayola ones, is it majorly obvious the differences? Is there anyway you could maybe pretty please make a super short and quick video on it, like show us what they all look like and tell us what you're noticing between them all...... I am not an artist, like at all, so if I could learn/pick up little tricks and tips on using "cheaper" equipment it helps out sooooo much being a single mommy and losing my job cuz of the virus stuff so Ive had zero income for 4months now... which might I add trying to draw and picking up coloring has been SUCH A GODDESS send right now.. highly needed and helpful with stress and clearing my mind not to mention it's something us 3 musketeers can do together... so thank you!!! We love these class videos of yours!!
