Adjust/ increase the "Shutter Speed" to help reduce the trailing/ blurring effect. It will get a bit darker but will reveal better moving details. To be a fair comparison, should be side-by-side at the same time.

@@MProductionsHU you probably found this already, but you need to log into the camera itself in the web browser and adjust the exposure time. I believe it's 1/25 by default. I changed my front camera to 1/100. It's slightly lower light but less motion blur from card passing by.

@@MProductionsHU after login into the camera directly, go to the "Image" tab, then "Display Settings", then "Exposure Settings", there is a pull down menu for "Exposure Time", I recommend a minimum of 1/75. with that I can clearly make out faces of people walking up to our door at night. They were just a blur at the default of 1/30

@@stevereed3451 Thank you for your reply. I have carefully followed your guide, however there's no option to do that. All I have is: Profiles, Brightnes, Contrast, Saturation, Color, Sharpness and Noise Reduction :( It is a DS-7108HUHI-K1 DVR with a firmware of V4.30.300

Nice comparison! I know it's been a while, but did you get to test how good the notifications are when detecting people at night with just the street lights? I feel like there are a lot of videos out there, but nobody really covers this. Which makes it hard for us to pick a camera. One last question if you don't mind me asking, do you happen to know how many people can watch the live feed at the same time through their app? Thank you and sorry for bothering you with too many questions!

I had thought of replacing my 4MP gen.1 ColorVu turret with the 8MP but after seeing this video I'm not so sure that's a good idea. For one, the larger sensor on the 8MP gives a narrower FOV which is kind of a big deal for me. Also, I wonder if Hik is slowing down the night time frame rate to allow the pixels to gather more light and that's what is causing the soft image on moving objects. In any case, thank you for taking the time to make these videos, they are very helpful.

No problem glad they have helped. Yes I believe so and also slowing down the shutter speed. But also believe the technology in sensor in also advancing to allow them to capture more light.

Out of the box the frame rate is slow, you can go in and increase it along with adjusting the white light and image setting to get a sharper moving image at night the downside is that you will have a slightly grainy image overall depending on the ambient light available in the area

@@jcp3842 Thanks for the follow-up. I live in the US and Hikvision has recently been banned due to their backdoors so I don't even know if I will be able to buy the 8MP ColorVu. 😯

Why are you filming nighttime as if it was in daylight? Make the image a little darker by choosing a faster shutterspeed. Image will have less ghosting/image blur in the moving objects.

Thanks Eugene. Cameras can be purchased from www.eql.com.au if your based in Australia. If outside Australia there will be other distributors that can help. If you let me know where you are located we might be able to point you in the right direction.

In my opinion when zoomed in on the license plates, the 4mp shows the letters better compared to 8mp. Seems that the 8mp is over exposing the images, you get a brighter image, but license plates get saturated. So increasing the shutter speed should help the 8mp here as well. Also the 8mp becomes more pixilated, look at the outline of the cars). Anyways in my opinion the 4mp wins “out of the box”, therefore please retest with the shutter speeds adjusted accordingly.

Agree. 8mp has a brighter image, but not sharper. In fact the 8mp looks grainier to me. Was wondering to see if I should upgrade to 8mp version, but now I’ll stay on the fence and wait for better products come out from HV.

Hi Peter a lot of the cameras will suffer motion blur unfortunately. There is possibly some cameras that will reduce this but the cost of those cameras will be quite high in comparison.

Hi Tamia. Agreed it isn't the best. One of downside of trying to show 4K on social platforms. The other issue is not a lot of people are watching content on 4K Displays either, so this will also not help. It does however give you a good indication of what to expect. Will try and figure out a better way if its possible. Thanks for commenting.

One method that you can use is to zoom both images especially on something with detail (face, number plate, clothing logo, etc.) Given the additional pixels in the 8MP, you assume it would show that detail better.
