Colorful creations with Wild Violets

In this video we make colorful creations with wild violets. Violets are beautiful edible flowers that can be made into a wide array of herbal creations and tasty treats. These small flowers can be found growing on lawns, roadsides and in meadows and forests. The species of violets we have growing here is Viola Sororia or common blue violet. This species is native to North America but many species of these edible violets can be found growing worldwide. They have been used as food and medicine for centuries by many different cultures and today are seen as a common lawn weed. For a small plant that is often seen as something to be removed it is quite amazing. I already can't wait for early Spring next year to make some more colorful creations! I hope you enjoy this video and please let me know some of your favorite ways to use violets or some things you would like to make with them in the future!
The video I made last year on wild violets is on identification and uses:

This was so sweet! Love your ideas about violets and that was a marvelous tea party. The hat your daughter was wearing was such a nice touch! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much!! I think we will have to have tea parties more often. We all really enjoyed it. She loves that hat and wears it almost every day now!

Wow, it's just like Phenolphthalein in chemistry! That is super cool. Maybe you could try boiling it down to a concentrate or powder for use as a food dye. Idk if the heat will break the color though. It may also boil away with the water if it is a liquid that causes the color.

Not gonna lie I had to look that one up haha but yes. Next year I would like to do a project using the infusion as a ph indicator on paper like a litmus test. Sadly boiling does end up destroying the color but I do wonder if drying them and making a powder could work. I would like to make a more concentrated syrup by doubling the amount of violets and seeing how that works too. So many possibilities! I am excited to try all sorts of things with them again next Spring.

Thank you!! The colors are always so amazing! I have seen people make simple syrups like this with pansies as well. Not sure if your pansies are still thriving but it may be something fun to try out!

I'll give the syrup a try! My experience w/violets is making Jelly. Very rare around here. I manage to get 2-3 cups of blooms. Only 2 Small patches of violets I've found. I can relate on your excitement to find a large area of them! 💟
