Colorado's New Directional DH Trail. Riding Hard Money in Black Hawk

Спорт

What a time to be alive. There is no better day than "New Trail Day". Hard Money is Colorado's newest directional, mtb only, dedicated dh trail, located just outside of Black Hawk on Maryland Mountain. The official grand opening is on Memorial Day Weekend, 2021, so come on out and enjoy the festivities.
This project was originally started by the city of Black Hawk a couple of years ago, offering outdoor rec opportunities close to town. COMBA got involved and raised funding to create mtb specific, directional trails. I see this sort of thing as a huge step in the right direction for the MTB community. The next round of fundraising will go to support the next two MTB only, directional trails, making four in total, culminating with a double black, true DH run. Huge thanks to Black Hawk for allowing BMA and COMBA to cater to our user group. The future is bright.
As we all know, these things don't just happen without the huge efforts of many people. Huge thanks to all of the volunteers have put countless hours into this trail system. Love your work. Please consider making a donation of time or money to COMBA or BMA. They are fighting for our user group on the ground and truly making an effort to move the needle. There are plenty of dig days coming up, every little bit helps the community. Be the change you want to see. Get involved! Cheers to Wendy and Gary for hosting Dacre and I.

Props to Black Diamond Trail Design and High Country Conservation for their amazing trail work at Maryland Mountain. Truly a pleasure to lay tires on your work!

Yeti Cycles has been supporting this initiative since the beginning, in hopes of having a true training area to foster the next generation of US DH racers.

Nothing better than "New Trail Day" !!! Huge thanks to everyone that made this happen for our community. Grand opening is Memorial day weekend, so come on out and get rad. Please consider donating time and/or money to COMBA \ BMA if you want to see more of this. Hard Money is the first of 4, bike-only, directional DH trails that will be constructed on Maryland Mountain in Black Hawk. Plenty of dig-days coming up if you want to join. So about 20 years ago I was the Planning Director for Black Hawk and was part of the team the negotiated the acquisition of Maryland Mountain from BLM - I used to ride the old jeep and rail grades and told the city council this would make an excellent mtb trail system. So nice to see this come fruition

I'm hearing that the plunge is pretty fucking gnarly. You can ride the lower section as an out and back.

My opinion, you really need a backpack for a whole day riding or for few dozens miles from anywhere. Short's pockets, hips pack, seatbag or frame pack is often enough.
