Colorado Homestead Buried in Blizzard! Disaster Emergency State Declared

We survived the Colorado blizzard of 2024 but ended with close to 5 feet of snow. Our homestead was completely buried and our county declared a local disaster state of emergency. Check out our footage of the storm, the good the bad and the ugly!

    👍 That metal on that tractor has been broken for a while, you can see the rust to the point where it was still solid toward the forward bolt. Have those areas re-enforced both sides of the tractor or it will just happen again. Wow that's some crazy snow, I guess one person's dream is another person's nightmare...couldn't pay me to live near that crap. I'll take the heat any day thank you. Glad you guys enjoy it because it's just gonna' get worse... sorry. Happy birthday Vigo!

    Thanks for the update. If you are prepared with the right equipment it actually looks like fun. I miss the heavy snow storms we had on our farm in the 1940's in NH.

    We live in Franktown in Douglas County and we got 30+ inches with the storm. We have a tractor with bucket and a box scraper to get rid of the snow in the driveway. Shoveled the rest off the decks. I feel your pain. No fun when equipment breaks. Glad to hear your community rallies together during these kinds of situations.

    WOW! It's been a long time since we got buried like this here in the Adirondacks. But you did your due diligence and prepped for the worse case scenario. And, in spite of mechanical failures, the family had a blast together. Memories like this are priceless.

    I never laughed so hard as Viggo tried to get out of the house.......priceless. On a more serious note, be careful if you take your utv out in that. If you break down, just think how difficult it would be to walk out.

    ... Good to see everyone's OK ... Bummer on structural tractor parts problems ,, that should never happen ... ... Reminds me of my youth ,, snowed like this regularly,, had to walk to school in this ,,"both ways" .... then ride my bicycle around 6 blocks to deliver local newspaper .... telling them that it snowed .... No Internet then ,, TV stations , (4),, seldom worked in the blizzards .... ... When you have property like that ,, who needs Ski Resorts ?? ... Stay Safe ... Stay Home ....

    hahah. good old days of deep snow. Growing up in VT, I saw a lot of it, but then again , I was a kid, so maybe it just seemed deeper. who needs ski resorts !!! exactly. when the kids got stuck at their friends house down the road, they realized they holed up in the wrong location. At least the road was plowed enough for them to get a ride almost all the way to the house. I don't think they would have made a 5 mile trek in waist deep snow otherwise.

    The last one this big was in March of 2003 - and it was quite a bit more snow. I’m in Evergreen on a 2 mile private road. Stranded for now, with plow vehicles rendered useless because of the snow depth. But it’s all OK - beautiful, in fact. Good luck!

    2003 was the biggest snow in Colorado in our lifetimes. I blame my mom as she was staying with me recovering from being ill and was planning to fly out during that time. I warned her that something was going to happen to keep her with me for a few more weeks, that was it! It was an igloo all around my place in Conifer. Conifer and Evergreen as usual were competing for most inches by the way. It was close!

    Absolutely amazing how much snow has fallen on you all. I have never seen so much snow. Vigo is so funny when he disappeared in the snow and Brian had to dig him out of it. And you Amy taking one for KZread by removing your snowshoes. It's a good thing you all have all of the outdoor gear like snowshoes, etc. And the little bunny hill the boys built in front of the house was great. Do you all plan to do any cross country skiing on the trails or even the roads? I'm glad you all are doing well. Take care and Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

    Memory making at it's greatest! I've been waiting my whole life for something like this. Now that we have the UTV, Bryan has plans to groom the trails behind our house for skiing, but we are too late in the year to move so much snow. I grew up on cross country skis, but need to buy a pair to be ready for next year!

    FYI Colorado Mountain living always......... always clear the snowblower internally after every use or the snow will melt puddle up in the bottom of the fan and freeze the fan and you will break a shear pin every time

  • @ColoradoMountainLiving

    Great advice. I guess we just got lucky for the first 3 years without breaking any pins, but the lot of bolts we've been using lately seem cheaper & weaker than previous ones.

    Probably not plowing with the CF Moto until after most of it is removed with the tractor. That’s a lot of snow. Looks like lots of fun actually. I do love extreme weather events.

  • @ColoradoMountainLiving

    @ColoradoMountainLiving

    We are getting a new bracket. FYI we have over 700 hours on our machine of heavy use (excavation, plowing & heavy lifting). Our tractor also does not have a shelter, so it's exposed to the elements 365 days a year. These may be contributing factors to stress fracture and rusting. (that's my theory).
