    Thanks so much for posting all that snow storm information. We heard so many reports about what it was going to be out your way, so it's great to get the real story from you in the middle of it all. And, it looks like it was exciting to see it happen.

    When you guys get a heavy snow , it tracks north north east and hit northern Wisconsin, this time we dodged the bullet and had all rain . Before the rain we got 30inched on the ground . The rain knocked down most a lot today. My daughter and son in law lived in fort Collins and Greeley for a short time . I used to tell them we don't need any of your storms we can make our own. Now they live in Wisconsin not only do you get the snow but also the bitter cold -20. It's been One raw cold feburary.

    I can relate to your hand shoveling, as that's about all I've done all winter. Plus many hours on the tractor. It's the year of endless winter here in central Washington state. Our last 4 inches fell on Tuesday, but the good news is that it's supposed to get back to normal temps next. In the meantime we're fighting mud everywhere until the ground thaws and the melt can soak in. I'm so done with winter and ready for spring. Planted the tomatoes indoors this week and hope the snow is gone by May so we can set them out.

    In planning for next year, you might want to consider removing the backhoe from the tractor and installing a blade, and also buy a snowblower. Removing snow with a front loader is extremely slow work. A snowblower will get the job done in about ¼ the time. And a blade will handle depths that are too shallow for the blower.

  • @ColoradoMountainLiving

    @ColoradoMountainLiving

    We do have a plow blade, but Bryan took it off so he could move the super large snow banks off the driveway.A snowblower would work 90% except for the really wet snow- sounds like a great idea to me!

In '96 or '97 when I lived in Wellington up north I remember I-25 being closed between Denver and Cheyenne Wyoming because the snow drifts up and down that section of the freeway were over 6ft tall. Also experienced a freak hailstorm in Colorado Springs in the summer of '94 that did multi millions of dollars in damage to people's cars, homes, and the cars at dealerships all over the city. The snow will actually for the most part always be deeper by a house or building because the wind will blow it up by the house. You can definitely tell that you're not Rocky Mountain natives, 12 or so inches at your elevation is pretty normal for a snow storm. A couple weeks ago here in Island Park Idaho we got 108 plus inches which is 9 plus feet over the course of a weekend and took the state almost a full week to open up the state highway with big rotary snow blowers. Also a few avalanches closing a few different highways here that they had to use excavators and big rotary snow blowers to dig the avalanches off the highways, that snow was up to 30-50 feet deep.

    True. Bryan lived up here in the mountains for almost 10 years back in the 90s. and I grew up in Vermont, so I've seen way more snow than this in a single storm. Locals up here said this is a snowier year but the most is yet to come. The biggest snowfall last year came in May. Back in 2003 they got 7 feet up here over a weekend.

    Sorry guys but give me the tropics any day, I am a first time viewer. I would never survive in your climate. I am concerned about our weather in Australia because our summer or wet seasons wasn't as hot as it has been previously. Event though our city got flooded in its 100 year flood. Can't say we were short on rain this past season, just like your nit short on snow. Listening to Adapt 2030 and watching the shocking weather worldwide, I wonder how we will all fare with the ice age that we are descending into. How we are going to cope food wise. The food growing season is looking as bleak down under as it is for you guys in the northern hemisphere. Stay warm, stay safe guys. Love your dog.

    Grew up in Vermont here. We have radiant heat in the basement for our primary heat. I guess you still have a couple of months left for a chance at some snow. We have a plow for the tractor, he just took it off and put the bucket on to move the big snowbanks out of the way.

    Ok Amy ya got a jump on your driveway plowing, but if you lose power ya sure your gas stove will work? It's just that there might be a cut off switch on the gas line when ya lose power kind a safety feature! Maybe a jump on cleaning off your generator might get you best prepared !!

    Yea we asked the stove distributor if we can use it without power and he said yes. But you are right about the generator! Sadly a family on this road lost their home in a fire when their generator misfired and caught fire.

    We get snow like this in the SoCal mountains all the time! Every year now, not just every 4th or 7th year, because we live in a small mountain town with 2 ski resorts which changed hands about 5 years back. They manipulate the weather by manipulating the jet streams, then fine tune it to our area with chem trail spraying. Every year now, we are hopelessly snowed in for at LEAST 2-4 weeks a season, our propane and electric are both over $400/month, so costing us over $800/mo combined, and we have to pay to not only plow out our 4x4 vehicles, bit also the road leading to our house since county claims they no longer take care of it, which costs us over $500 everytime we need it done. Love living up here the rest of the year but winter manipulation is going to drive us out within another year or two.
