    @@Jecht81 To clarify what I mean, I was impressed by the puppeteering work in creating a performance where you can really feel arlo's trepidation. That combined with excellent camera work to create mood. Arlo must have had someone to help him with all this. I know we try not to bring up the fact that Arlo is a puppet and not really as we see him, for various reasons. But I wanted to acknowledge that a lot of excellent work went into that sequence. Much more than if a regular non puppeteered youtuber did a similar sequence.

    So fun fact. By the time the Sticker Star backlash happened, they had already been heavy in development of Color Splash. The moment they finished developing that one, they went right into the Wii U game. By the time they realized that people hated the formula, they were probably too far in to want to scrap it. That’s probably why they didn’t even attempt to fix anything after its initial release. They just kind of accepted its fate and just moved on

  • @YokiDokiPanic

    @YokiDokiPanic

    4 жыл бұрын

    That makes a LOT of sense... And it was a wiiU game, so it probably wasn't worth delaying production, and thus increasing the budget for a game that didn't have enough machines to run it on out there to make it a hit, anyway.

  • @ballzcorps5146

    @ballzcorps5146

    That does make sense. By the Time the Wii U released and Color Splash feasibly went into production. It makes it likely that by the Mid-Way point they just said screw it and decided to take the backlash. Maybe, this is why it's taking so long for a new Paper Mario game? They're busy trying to make it as good as possible.

I usually have your videos on in the background while we read books, cook, play and do chores. But the opening to this specific video scared the crap out of the baby. He stopped playing and just stared. The tears started coming so I scooped him up and ran away to another room in the house. All so you wouldn’t be scary to him. It was hilarious. Just wanted to share my dumb little story and let you know that all ages love you.

    I've played every Mario RPG. Intelligent Systems, Alphadream, even Squaresoft's Mario RPG on the Super Nintendo. If there was a Mario RPG I was THERE. I loved how they took Mario's simple, fun world and expanded on it so hardcore fans could really have something to sink their teeth into. Sticker Star seemed like a placeholder until a "true console Mario RPG" came along, but instead we got Color Splash and I was heartbroken. The Mario & Luigi series is in trouble now that Alphadream's gone bankrupt. It makes me feel like Mario RPG's, once a Nintendo staple, may cease to exist entirely. Maybe they will. But I ain't giving up hope... BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT METROID PRIME 4 BAYBEEEEEEEEEEEE

    What i loved about the previous Paper Mario games (64, Thousand Year Door, and yes, even Super) is the fact they have so many memorable moments, are in general very fun to play, and all have gripping storylines. I find myself going back and replaying them every now and then. Sticker Star, Color Splash, and even Origami King unfortunately don't have those levels of charm. I've played all of them through to the end, but even i can't bring myself to even try a new playthrough of any of them. They have a few good parts/story beats scattered throughout (color spalsh and origami king anyway), but the bad outweighs the good and i just can't get back into them. This vid is old and this comment section, but goddamn I hope The Thousand Year Door remake sells like hot cakes and Nintendo pays close attention to those unit numbers and finally realizes what exactly made longtime fans fall in love with this franchise. Cause after the remake, we really need to see a return to form sequel, or an adaptation of Paper Luigi's quest to save Princess Eclair.

    My boyfriend is a diehard Chromebook fan and I have (over time) started to get it. They're integrating (sorry if that's the wrong word) Linux more and more so you can use steam and play low intensity games which is fine for most people. Chromebooks are incredibly fast and snappy, and stay fast for so much longer. If the vast bulk of your computer usage is browsing, in the Google ecosystem, or available as an app, Chromebooks are actually awesome and most average people who spend thousands on the best machine would be fine with a much cheaper chromebook (my dad has a surface, mum a MacBook pro, both as overpowered word processers and Netflix machines) That said I love my XPS 13 to death and couldn't imagine getting a Chromebook until the Linux functionality is comparable to the experience of using Windows. My bf is a bit of an early adopter in that regard.

    The problem you were describing about the cards being the worst of both worlds is 100% on point. I'm the RPG gamer who saves consumables like each one is the Holy Grail. I also hate manual looting in most games. And inventory management is the worst. Color Splash Frankensteins these together into some sort of endless nightmarish loop of gathering, sorting, using and losing that leaves me cold, shivering and dead inside.

    Super Paper Mario wasn't like the first two and while it got a lot of hate from some, it still has a big fan base and is very convincing in the story aspect. Just goes to show what Color Splash could've been if they put as much love into the mechanic design as they did with the graphic design.

    It also has to do that Super Paper Mario at least continues the charm and lore of the first two Paper Mario games. Literally the only thing it's holding mostly back is that Super is change from RPG to Platformer that acts like RPG. But it still feels like a true continuations from the first two games, while Sticker Star and Color Splash change too much in a bad way to the point they feel like a completely different series.

While I personally am very excited for the TTYD remake, I still worry that no matter what direction the series takes, some portion of the fanbase won't be happy about it. They've put the series in this awkward situation where it will be very difficult for them to please everyone.

    @Bold One That would be very complicated without having the source code and/or digital tools created for modding that specific game. You might be able to change some things more easily, such as maybe injecting some code that changes paint scraps to allow you to use them to upgrade hp or max paint, but even that wouldn't be super easy. Depending on how the game's data is structured, we may be looking at something near impossible. Now if it was on PC it would probably be much easier as you could likely use a program like Cheat Engine to inject code in conjunction with Lua scripts to edit the game. Even then it'd be a lot of time and effort, and would likely have to be done by a team of REALLY passionate fans... And then Nintendo would shut the project down and we'd be unable to play it anyway. XD

    The suggestion I keep throwing around, that I still consider to be the best of both worlds, is, since the story of Super Paper Mario wraps up so neatly with all the bad guys either redeemed or unreachable, to have a sequel to TTYD with all the characters from both TTYD and Super Paper Mario as party members. The game could start with Mario getting back home from SPM’s universe, and being told he and his old and new friends had work to do. Since the weirdness of SPM’s playstyle came from the “other dimension” aspect of it, the mechanics and gameplay would be akin to TTYD. Then, you could have a postgame that could act like a story sequel to SPM, the story a lot of people loved but still felt somewhat unresolved. Boom, win-win.

    LoekTheKing by another, I'm guessing you're referring to Xenoblade: DE. That shit looks BEAUTIFUL, and when a game who's only problem was pretty much due to the hardware quality limiting graphics.... As a die-hard Xenoblade fan (favorite game, in general) this remaster makes me so fucking happy xD

    I actually really enjoyed this game. I thought the writing was clever enough and funny enough to carry me through the gameplay. The story was pretty original too. The combat system was flawed, but the overall gameplay of filling in colorless spots was extremely satisfying to me. Not a perfect game by any means but I still really enjoyed my time with it.

    Now that I think about it, that would actually be really great - you get the best of both worlds that way. All that's left is the HD visuals of Color Splash (although it doesn't have to all be paper).

    Arlo, you should really try Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling! It's an amazing indie game heavily inspired by the first two Paper Mario games, and it truly feels like an actual spiritual sequel to The Thousand Year Door!

    I wanted to enjoy it but I really couldn't. (And some people seem to think that we'd hate on it on purpose but I'm not spending money on anything just to hate on it.) Sticker Star was the ultimate crushing disappointment though.

    @@poison4822 From playing the first 3 games (though I played TTYD first), I absolutely loved the story, the unique and memorable characters, the humour, the emotions, the sidequests and the little quirks. I felt absolutely none of that in Sticker Star and only a bit of it in Colour Splash. Sticker Star in particular felt like a New Super Mario Bros. game without a timer and those games eventually became bland through repetition and little creativity. The game also had a very pointless and frustrating battle system - seriously, there is no need to battle at all. There was pretty much no unique characters; 99% of them were Toads with no distinguishing features and I find that especially galling considering the first game on the N64 had a wide variety of characters that weren't just Toads. Where's the friendly Koopas, the friendly Boos, the friendly Goombas? I know Mario games aren't considered the greatest stories ever but I do feel the Mario RPGs offer very good ones outside of the usual "Save Peach!" routine. Mario had to save the Star Spirits in the first one, Mario had to collect the Crystal Stars, discover what the 'treasure' was and stop Grodus in the second and in the third game, the whole party had to prevent the multiverse from being erased. They made me laugh, made me emotional, made me happy. I get that from the Mario & Luigi series too and that's my favourite for so many reasons. But from Sticker Star and Colour Splash, I felt none of it. Sticker Star had pretty much no story (certainly not on previous PM levels) and while Colour Splash did have better writing, it still lacked the developed world of those earlier games. I want to stress that I don't want to hate the games and I never wanted to be disappointed by them because wishing for such things is frankly idiotic; why would I deliberately waste money on something to hate upon it? But I have no love for the latter games at all. (And yet I have a blossom of optimism. Nintendo has been a lot better with Mario recently; more expressive, more creative. Mario + Rabbids was a great, enjoyable surprise. I hope to see a full-fledged Mario RPG with partners and charm and heart again.)
