When I was 16, Mrs. Campbell was my Spanish teacher. I decided I wanted to teach languages. Not a lot of encouragement from my extended family. I pursued my dream. I taught high school French as my career. I was very happy in my choice. Follow your dream, if possible.

I can relate to twisted love from my mom. When she criticized my choice of basically everything. She told me what to wear which partner to choose which school which job and when I was opposing I’ve got guilt trip of not being grateful and that she loves me so much. Other people and what they think was always more important What is wrong with this picture what kind of love is it that doesn’t make you happy. I’m 59 so I hope you can realize how impactful such a behaviour is. I have amazing life only because I’ve run away from her “love” to another country. My mom is still here and I love her but she is depleting me of my energy whenever I’m with her, still don’t feel the love just control. I’m great I have two wonderful children and five grandchildren. Never criticize them always listen and supporting them ❤

You’ve opened my eyes with your comments. I feel guilty & see myself in your mother. I’m trying to “change” slowly. Guess I got so “SPOILED” seeing all that I say/want/like get done. Now this, my daughter’s going against” my wants is really new to me and makes feel like losing my control. The “change” that I’m trying to do is really hard for me. Hope it’ll be soon before it’s too late.

We cannot let our children do "whatever" and "whenever" they want. Sometimes to say "No" is a good thing. Parents just need to know when to "empower" their children and not to "enable" them. Saying "yes" ALL the time is as bad as saying "No" ALL the time. There is a balance. You have to find a happy medium. It's NEVER easy being a parent. BUT please believe me when I tell you it is just as hard as being a kid in today's society. I am both. What do I know about protecting my loved ones, when I myself was abused and NOT protected. I raised myself and helped raise my sisters. i did/ do my best. i don't belong. i don't fit in. And most of the time i don't feel safe. Monsters aren't born. But We create them. Please. Listen to Your children. Love them. Protect them. And Never be afraid of saying, "No".

At least she had her dad's support that was awesome. The mom needs to stop living vicariously through her daughter.. that's not fair..she made her own choices and now its time for her daughter to do the same. That artist teacher was very insightful he understood Kat's problem when he realized who/ how her mom was.

We remain puppet in the hands of others as long as we have no clarity, no vision 😔 Then, there is no look back once we meet the right person in our life. lucky are those who found a master 🙏 who gets your wings to fly. You learn how to be yourself and make your own decisions 😉 Loved to see the movie. Her natural inclination towards painting 🖌️🎨 but how difficult it was for her to chase the dreams of her mother 🤜🤛 and her own too at the same time. It's a battle between mind and heart.. perhaps can't go long together. At some point of time, one has to assert its power so firmly.

The heart AND mind need to be aligned for soul happiness. Following only the mind (hoping to get approval-validation-acceptance-love) leaves us feeling like something is missing (like our true self) Following only our heart with no mindfulness can get us in trouble (& broke) Let the heart lead and the mind serve our heart in the highest good ... they're meant to get along 😉

Because mother is being reminded of her "failure" all the time by her own father. It is very hurtful. Basically, the mother has a heavy burden to carry, too. What is the end of the story? Most probably, and hopefully, the mother is being healed by the love and strength of her husband and daughter. Very good movie!

!/2 way through it's clear the writers are pushing this idea that drugs is the way to one's feelings and courage. It's one way to go and one always has to land back in a world without it. There are other, perhaps not "cool" but long range healthier ways to get into the zone. This movie redeemed itself by the strength of father and daughter finding their mutual supportive courage.

And one reason is that one when one really loves doing it, and even is good at it, one can feel like one is playing. So one has to get past one's own wrong thinking even before that of family, friends etc.

Well, part of her family WAS cruelly unkind. He was affirming Ambria's/Katie's ethics. My grandfather was a negligent husband and father back in the 1920s. My grandmother took my mother and uncle to another state where her mother (my great grandmother) was, then, living , so that she could ensure their safety and well-being. So we were estranged from my grandfather's side of the family. Long after his death, my brother and I attended a family reunion with our estranged relatives. My grandfather's elderly sister-in-law, who scorned my grandfather, turned her nose down at me and my brother when we were first introduced. But, her son reminded her of something HIS father had taught him: not to judge someone's character by their father. So, later, I had a pleasant visit with my great aunt and learned more background to the story of the nature of my grandfather's negligence. And I learned that the concerns were not exaggerated by my mother and grandmother.

Love this movie so much. And also the songs. They are amazing. I looked for "welcome to my life, color me you and It's Chrismas time and I love you"but couldn't find anywhere. Is there anyone who knows where I can find. ❤
