Amazingly simple breakdown! Thank you! I am soon going to need to help a group feel comfortable with adding color into their daily wardrobes, this will be most helpful in reaching my goal of teaching in a simplified manner to women who generally have a fear of color because they don't know or understand how to choose clothing. Again thank you for this lesson!
I don't know why youtube doesn't recommend this as the first when you search for color

this one is simple but effective.
Who painted the painting of the girl with the lantern on the rock in the stream? It is the most moving painting I have seen in a long time. I just love it and would love to know who did it. Thank you for the informative video, it was helpful.
As someone who had a really difficult time seeing shades of colors, how would ai be able to tell what is yellow and what is blue? I do not mean if I mix them, I mean buying them. Can I look up their color and see what colors combine to make them and the ratios? Thanks!
hi portrait art. nice video.
I could watch this on replay
teal and brown
I painted some leaves in watercolor using 3 colors (indigo blue, purple lake, yellow ochre) and I used the 3 colors in each leave (for ex. the tip of the leave purple, the body yellow and the bottom blue). I am a very critic person and I think it was the best color harmonization that I ever did in my paintings. But I don't understand how they turned out so good if they are considered colors to clash. Can somebody explain it to me, please?

I think I found an answer, I used the "Split Complimentary colors".

Yellow, red and blue go with anything like he explained as long as they are the pure colour. Also yellow ochre is a dull yellow more neutral yellow

1. pure colors does tend to go well (eg. blue and yellow, tho ppl do find blue/white a bit more pleasing / calming, since there is 0 conflict there, while blue and yellow is like a forced harmony) 2. nature colors (basically any combo we are very very used to seeing, like afternoon purple sky and yellowish grass, we are much more forgiven to.) 3. low saturation, the less vibrant something is, less of an overall effect it has regarding harmonious or not. 4. Subjectivity, this video should help vast majority of the people with in 80%+ middle of the bell curve. no color theory applies to everyone. That ugly christmas sweater that your aunt loves etc. cheers.
I love the use of real life references
One question: How to use the Square color scheme efficiently: I have: Green, its complementary Magenta-Red, their perpendicular Amber and its complementary Blue. Four unrelated complementary colors. Say Blue and Yellow pure and a Red and a Green that are both neither Bluish or Yellowish. How will you use such a color scheme?

in this situation one needs to see what you are working on since they are all pure primary or exact center secondary (green) colors. Context then becomes important. the shape of the color, the size of the color, the environment, the saturation all comes into play. Is it a sunny day with blue sky, yellow orchard and a girl in a green dress hold a small red apple? Is it an abstract piece? Is it website design, what is the theme of website and nature of content? Those all change how such a color scheme can be used.
I kind of already knew this, but it was lovely, thanks for the video!
Thanks bro, so can we say that Cool colors are blue-ish and Warm colors are yellow-ish?
Which Books
I have my own techniques to do colors but I only do it on PC so they a little bit different.

right, just follow w/e works, they all really come back to the same principle of group similar features/colors together, or group nice harmonious color together.

@@ThePortraitArt Hi , thank you for the respond. I appreciate it :) :) :)
How the hell did i wake up to this video lol
You were on the right track & then you lost it. Harmony has little to do with color, mostly it's about values. You can mix warm & cool hues if they match in value rather than temperature. So long as the colors are balanced either as shades, tints, or tones, then the overall look of a painting or photo will appear harmonious. Also green grass usually reflects some of that blue sky, and colors only appear warm or cool in context to their surrounding hues. Just bc complementary colors clash, it doesn't mean they can't be applied in a way that makes the eye see them under the same light. Again, it's a matter of using the right values to emphasize a dominant hue (hero color) and it's subtle contrasting element -- even better if they share the same tone. For ex. The reason that green jacket & yellow-brown boot mixed with the blues is that everything was harmonized in earth tones.

He said 'simple approach', likely not meant for the 'knowledgeable/comfortable with color' folks
