Devyn Fosmire it took me forever to learn how to toss a 45 😂 I actually was threatened to be kicked out of a fall show because I couldn't do it. My senior year winter season, I had a solo toss. It was a double 45 😁 always room for improvement if you set your mind to it!

Just curious, but what happens at guard tryouts? We don’t have those. The Cadet guard is open to everyone in grades 6-8. The A guard is 7-12, aka kids that have outgrown the cadet guard or are good enough for A. Then, world is 8-12, but you obviously have the be the best in the program. In order to move up to A or world, they watch you veeeery carefully throughout the season to see if you’re ready to go to the next level.

@@mayonnaise4612 at my tryouts 8th graders come from different schools to the highschool they are going to. They have three days to get down a simple flag routine and dance routine. Then like in 2 to 3 days the gaurd leader would email us if we got in or not

at my school , we had three days to learn 2 eight counts and one flag routine . then on the 4th day , we had 3 judges and we would do the 8 counts and the routine in front of them & on the same day we found out if we made the team or not

On our tryouts we had to learn a separate dance routine and a separate flag routine on the day we tried out. We had to learn both in 8 hours...

That's called guard. In my school's guard tryouts I was about to go get my jazz shoes from the dance room but the captains told me not to because marching season is the only time we wear jazz shoes

I remember when I first joined winter guard I watched this video and tried the "pop toss" (we call it a double in our groups) and couldn't even hold it right. Now that i'm watching this, i'm like "How could I not do that?"

Wow. That’s cool. I’m a freshman in marching band this year and I love watching the guards’ flags “whoosh, whoosh whooshy WHOOSH!!!!”

I am in 8th grade and I completed one year of both winter guard (indoors without band) and color guard (outdoors with band). I have gotten better since September 7, 2017. We have been in parades and competitions and I learned that the more you practice and improve on what you gotta improve, you could definetly improve. I really love color guard 😍💕 Btw, love the silks

I understand this was made in 2015 but I didn't know two of these tosses and I'm going to try to practice them. Those flags are so pretty and I so get the whole wind issue, wind is your worst enemy.

In my school they didn't really have much of a colorguard left so we only learned one toss. I enjoyed it so much I do it as a good workout now, I enjoy learning new tosses so thank you!

I really enjoy this video and how it discusses release points. I am sharing this with the rookies in my guard so that they have a better understanding of how to do some of our basic moves that they are struggling with.

+Emerald Miller don't get me wrong, it will hurt. But I promise whatever damage you sustain from the flag, it will not hurt to terribly. I've only ever seen that in extreme cases and surely not from basic flag tosses.

Don’t be afraid of the flag. I’ve hit my head,but pain goes away fast. I promise. Just keep trying it will come eventually. I feel you, it’s my first year doing guard. It can be hard sometimes, but just keep trying, and when you finally get the toss, it’s going to be such a good feeling.

I'm a freshman and it's my first year on guard and we catch our money hand toss behind our backs.😳 it was so scary at first but now it's like nothing 😅

it is so weird how we do the same things but use different terminology. like how you say tape, we call them the cheaters. and you call it a money hand toss whereas we just call it a j (jay) toss.

Awesome work guys! I’m old school flags (1985-89) 😆 when we tossed, we had to slap our hands/arms down to our sides, then bring them up to catch. We had points deducted if our arms were in the air while flag was tossed. Times a changing I guess 😁

This helps me so much! 🤩 I just join color guard in my high school and everyone is super advance and of course because I’m new, I don’t know almost anything besides the basics, so this really helps me out a lot! 😌 Thank youuuuuuu 💗💗💗

Watching this now and realizing just how different technique and protocols can change in the CG in just a couple of years, and also just how DIFFERENT technique is every where you go. Vocabulary is different, and this is what makes teaching a college guard so hard- because you have to explain everything using national language, and teach using the same technique/teaching new techniques. This is so interesting.

This was really helpful because I might join color guard next year. My aunt gave me 3 flags for my birthday. Her daughter was in color guard and drum core.

I'm a guy who wants do color guard for my freshman year I did pit my eight grade year for marching band which is this year , this really helped me

YEAH GUARD!!!! ^__^ I was in CG when i was in High School (a looooong time ago). I now spin fire with a performance troupe in Seattle but I have been missing my flag so i just ordered a new one online today. Been looking for good tutorials since i will be a bit rusty with a flag and found your channel. Fantastic tutorials!

I’m SO excited to start color guard I’m trying to get as prepared as possible before I start

At my school we call our tosses different names 1. Big n' 2. Grab Money 3. X toss 4. Regular toss 5. This one is the same we call it a 45. This year we do a 45 I the show and we turn around under it. We do a lot of things different. Like we have a windup for the X toss. We also do a "cone" (we call it a stir) before the 45. Also there are a bunch of counts that we do different and stuff like that.

I’m a freshman in color guard this year and there are only 6 people on my schools color guard and we have two captains but three of the people on our color guard are seniors and the other three of us are all freshman or sophomores so we don’t know really anything about color guard and next year two of us three are going to have to be captain and co captain.

Anya Deising it really depends on your instructor. I get what you're saying because in our show, they do typically go a lot higher. I have seen shows though that are the same height as the one in the video. He has been doing this for a while so that's just how he learned it.😊
