    I'm still relatively new to Resolve, but jumped right into Fusion and learned a lot of it. Colour tab still intimidates me with all those wheels and dials though, so this should help.

    Thank you for explaining HSL. However, as a beginner I mostly try to improve 8-bit clips. I am wondering what would be your opinion on 8-bit and 10-bit. Is it really makes sense to try to color correct 8-bit? Or the camera settings is just enough

  • @colorgradinginsights

    @colorgradinginsights

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, of course! You can always color correct any footage - but maybe it doesn’t need much as as you’re saying - good exposure is the key! I’ll make a tutorial covering covering 8bit footage soon!

    Love Your Videos! Video Suggestion - For Canon CLOG 2 & 3, from the C70 for instance, the blues always look off no matter which picture profile is used, can you please show how to properly grade Canon Log 2 footage to Rec 709-A while at the same time adjusting the scene so the Blues look correct? Just curious the workflow a pro colorist would use?

    Sir, there are several way to tweak some colors as you need to create the balanced footage, just make sure you do the color balancing before the rec709 conversion node. My suggestion, you could use the above technique HSL curve or color warper tool

    I don't know if this is the correct place to ask but I shoot in raw. That means I guess that my clips are ready for anything in davinci. But it seems that we cannot just randomly download LUTs from internet and apply. We need to know what profile those LUTs are, right? So if I convert to rec709 in project, I should not apply a LUT made for LogC or Cineon or something else? Or am I missing this? If you could tackle that it would be awesome :) By the way, as stated from others, your tone of voice and speed and detailed explanation of WHY we choose some things is 5/5

  • @colorgradinginsights

    Hello Patrick! Firs of all, thank you so much for visiting my channel and watching my videos. Yes, everything you say it’s correct. DaVinci resolve on built LUTs are mostly designed for cineon Film log color space and before applying any lut, you always need to convert your clip to a specific color space LUTs are designed for. Have a look at my other videos when I am explaining how to color grade raw or how to apply kits correctly - I hope it’ll help! And feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

    Yeah, lets create a beginner tutorial that makes the viewer go find ANOTHER beginner tutorial just to create the primary and secondary nodes you started off with?!?! Beginners most likely don't know how to create the correct nodes either, just saying. You lose any viewer the moment you jump past a step. EDIT: Just looked it up, why most tutorials leave that quick little piece of info out, and literally just skip over it is beyond me and makes absolutely no sense at all. "In this beginner tutorial where you probably no nothing, otherwise it wouldn't be called a 'beginner' tutorial, I'm going to skip right past the first few steps and hope you can still follow along! Even though it would literally take me 2 seconds to mention that, during the actual step." 🤦‍♂
