My footage comes in more saturated and contrasty when I put it on the timeline, I saw a fix in modify footage and changing the color space but is there something I can do that automatically does it without having to go that route?

If you’re correcting a lot of the same footage, yes it’ll be a time saver. In this case I just colour corrected one clip so it’s not necessary.

I don’t see it on the list but I assume you should be fine. The Fuji camera example wasn’t the exact model as it’s a newly released camera, but the correction was still good.

What do terms like S-Log mean? How would I know what my footage is?

@@lilafromyoutube I do, yep - CLOG3. I'm still working with it to figure out how best to expose it (overexposing a bit for noise, but not too much to blow things out) - that's one area you Sony shooters definitely have an advantage over Canon. And I'd like to sometimes shoot with a standard profile rather than LOG - auto WB and exposure would be awesome, especially for more vlog-type stuff. But I haven't figured out how to do it and have it not look like crap yet!

@@BrianSellers i shot all videos (vlogs & talking head on this channel) in neutral in 2022 (this vid was shot in SLOG though). it's really good but i would recommend to set the white balance. i have no idea how to expose c-log so can't help you there haha

Why can't I find the cinematic in the effects tab anymore

Is it better to first edit all footages and colorgrade the log footages or first color grade the log footages and then edit the video ? Edit in the sense all the cuts and adding transitions and audio

For time and processing power what I see people often do is: cut all your sequence first > add color > add transitions and overlays > add texts and animations if you have it.

When I try to color correct and grade videos not shot in LOG they get “muddied up” is there a way to make videos not shot in log look like they were?

thanks for watching!! how do you convert your LOG footage?

I received an mp4 file and was asked to color correct/grade. I know that the best way to achieve this is to work with the original files from the camera. However (unfortunately) that is not possible. It was already encoded. I used windows 10 to search for the Codec on the mp4 file and it was a h264. It is a music video and there is very heavy effects used throughout the video. What do you suggest would be my best possibe workflow, if any. and if you can send a link to any video/site that explains how to to do this, it would be appreciated.

You can still colour correct and grade it, just be careful because the colours might break. In other words, subtle grades should work!

Hi Lila, I'm totally irritated coz of finding one thing, it's very hard finding on google & KZread from last 2 days, WHERE to find any Log file properties (like C-Log-1 OR C-log-2 OR C-Log-3) shoot done from canon camera, I think it shows in Davinci Resolve studio but not in premiere pro, In Premiere pro it shows all other data like codec, frame rate, duration BUT not Log file shooting done from camera to check in Adobe software, PLZ help

STEP IN STONE! Thank you SO much for bringing up this particular thing. Someone the other day was trying to tell me that it was "step in stone" (they actually meant "stepping stone"). Now I can send them this and say "Lila is Dutch and she speaks English better than you..." 🤣

colour correction can be done on the source video. you can also layer lumetri color effects on a clip.

As I said in the video though, i wanted to show the steps so people understand what it all means. For me it’s always really important to show how things work “underneath” rather than slapping on a conversion. That way, people don’t really understand what it really does. And yeah, there are more ways to Rome - I always convert it to rec709 by using the cine match plugin. Some professional editors do it differently. I never said that this is how “actual Hollywood colorists” do it because I’m not one of them. I’m a professional editor and KZreadr so that’s the angle I took with this video. I hope that cleared things up! 🙌🏻
