    Thank for this, I am just trying the two piece system after having the same issues you have talked about, with the 1-piece. It was good to hear it wasn't anything I was doing wrong. I did look at other systems but the quality of the coloplast covering brings me back to it. Keep up the great reviews.

    I see your video was created 6 years ago and you’re still helping people like me. Thank you so much for your review. Coloplast now has a wafer that will help to cause the stoma to protrude which is the answer to our prayers. I think the filter is smaller too. Our supplies are on the way.

    Hey Eric! Coming back to videos from you and Meghan. I switched to this bag after getting samples that sat in a box fir a couple of years while I was bed ridden. I’ve been having trouble getting it to stick, but I have Psoriasis and I think it’s flaring up under the flange. I decided to go to the experts and see what reviews had to say. I was happy to see you doing a review. I keep recommending you and Meghan to everyone who needs encouragement. ✌️❤️✌️

    I got this system right after surgery (6 months ago because of colon cancer after 10yrs of Crohn), I have a colostomy that is now at the level of skin, it's wasn't the case at the start but I have a double "exit" of colon in the same place (like a double gun barrel) it's a really complex situation, so I have problems of skin irritations regularly due to poop's abrasion but it's not the wafer's fault, it's tricky to get the skin well protected with the shape of my ostomy. I also notice ballooning at morning from time to time, like you said it's a little random with the filter. I love the fact I can fold the pouch with the velcro, materials are good and here in France the Coloplast customer help is very good, I hope I will never have to change from Coloplast. I'm going for an ileostomy in April because the risk of cancer recurrence is too high on the remaining colon, it will be the occasion to have a good shaped ostomy this time! At the first surgery I was scared of getting an ostomy but now I wish I got it before, I have gain so much in freedom since I'm no more affraid of getting away from a bathroom, it really change my life in a good way. Thanks for all your helpful videos :)

    Thank you for your comment . I have already tried the Mio click 2 piece but find it to hard to separate to burp and find the flexibility almost nil compared to hollister products. Also find the filter does not work for long if you have an ileostomy with high liquid output. I do love the one piece Mio product for it bags quality and ease of cleaning. They are also so comfortable against the skin. I'm going to keep trying them when my output is more under control. Thank you for all your information. @@michaelfick9427 how are you feeling today? I hope you’re recovering well. I am glad to hear from someone else like me too! I have this colostomy because i had a surgical wound that didn’t heal for 2 years now. The surgical wound was from an Anal Fistula that the doctors had to perform because I had an abcess back in 2020. I do manual stimulation every time I do bowel movement so that caused the abscess. The doctor said the same thing, colostomy will be beneficial for me, i wouldn’t have to manually stimulate it and it will free up lots of time for me and also i don’t have to worry about getting another abscess again. So now, 8 days post-op, i like that i don’t have to be in the restroom for hours. But this is a big adjustment too. We have to watch out what we eat to prevent blockage of the stoma. I use a one-piece convex bag and absolutely love it - I agree with all your pro points about this bag. I don't really have any issues with the filter and love the opening (I use the narrow one) - I hardly ever get my hands dirty, and it opens really well (much better than other bags I've tried) and stays open while you clean it.The fabric on these bags is unlike any other bag and I wouldn't swap it for anything. Thank you for this review. My wife is still getting used to a colostomy bag and just tried the Coloplast SenSura Mio 2 piece. Unfortunately, with the wide outlet connector system, severe caking of stool in the barrier ring occurred, resulting in a marked odor with any gas escape via the charcoal filter. Despite doing my best to clean the barrier ring, I was unable to adequately clean the connecting ring so the odor continued despite changing the pouch. As such, my wife did not want to use this otherwise very well designed ostomy system.

    One idea would be to use the 1pc version of this Mio bag. I find that output slides down easier when there is no connecting ring, which may prevent caking of the stool (along with a lubricating product for best results). Keep experimenting with other products until you find one that works best for her. Good luck!

    Hey Eric, thanks for answering all my questions. As I mentioned earlier, I've had my ileostomy for only two weeks, but your videos have been incredibly useful for helping me adapt. My stoma nurses love your channel and so do I! Also, do the two sensura mio clicks both have the same flange size? I want to order a stealth belt but don't want to run into an issue with the belt not fitting the different bags.

  • @VeganOstomy

    @VeganOstomy

    Awesome to hear! Coloplast has several flange sizes for their appliances, so you'll have to check to make sure the flange size on your particular appliance will fit the stealthbelt. I would suggest waiting before ordering the stealthbelt until you know which appliance you'll be settling on. If in doubt, don't go with the StealthBelt pro because it's custom fit exactly to the flange size, and instead ask for the Quick Start belt, which I compared in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fZptyrRxdcTIgqg.html It's a belt that I wear often because the hole fits pretty much any appliance I throw at it!

But yesterday I discovered one downfall while on the mower yesterday the hard rings were digging into my stomach- really hurt- had to change to an old soft one piece then all was fine. For showering I towel dry it then blow dryer it for a minute.

    This is my favorite appliance system. It works the best for me. I do use the wide end pouch even though I have an ileostomy. I like the extra velcro and it's easier to clean off the wider opening. I usually use a ring with it. I have the deep convex version. I was just trying the petal shaped convex flip flange to see if it would stick to my belly any better. It worked about the same. So I can interchange them if I want to, depending on humidity or such. I have liked Coloplast. I fairly new, about 6 months, so still having some slight changes with Ruby.

    I really liked your review and the only things that I noticed other than what you said , with the 2 pc click system is the locking mechanism is very fragile and as you covered pancaking can become an issue for some, and in this case it has for me. With regular pancaking I need to clear the stoma as well as the wafer & bag more frequently so if I lock it in place each time, it won't hold without breaking during the opening and closing. My solution, because I clean it frequently as it pancakes, is to leave the lock open and place it at the top of the appliance. It will stay in place and is only an issue during cleaning the bottom outlet. I need to be careful not to pull to hard and support the bag in place to keep it from coming off during cleaning of any matter that has managed to fall down ,before pancaking has stopped it from coming out. I remove any closures that aren't broken as a replacement when changing my bag and I have used an adhesive to re-glue some broken, to have on hand, as it may break on first opening at times. The second issue I noticed is that my stoma will shrink when it is at rest (which it isn't much but is sometimes, for a short period), however when cutting the wafer if I cut it smaller I learned that it will, after a day or so, work the hole larger to allow itself to go through at the larger size, but it is a painful process to let it self stretch. To address this, I usually cut the wafer to the larger size and add Coloplast "sween Creame " around the exposed skin and inside the wafer to prevent any breakout when it starts to work ,but isn't yet fully swollen, allowing some matter to lay on the exposed skin. The fact that I clean it frequently helps and I don't normally get a rash unless I have left it sit too long. and the rash quickly clears up by using this simple barrier treatment cream. Not sure if this is a unique issue for myself - the change in size, though minimum it does affect the size of hole required. I am always open to other's suggestions as well.

  • @VeganOstomy

    @VeganOstomy

    Thank you for your comment, and for sharing your experience! I didn't find the locks to be fragile, but I did find that I did have to keep them locked, as they would not hold my appliance without it being locked. I wonder if there was a redesign or a change in material to account for what you've been experiencing. I totally understand what you mean by your stoma changing size after you've applied the wafer. My stoma is a fairly consistent size, but will grow and shrink, so I have to be mindful of any extreme size changes when cutting the hole in my wafer. If it's too small, yes, painful when your stoma grows!

    Great video! I’ve been using the Hollister two piece system for two months since my ileostomy surgery, but I just tried the Coloplast Mio. So far (after two days) I love it for all the reasons you mention. More flexible, more comfortable, better looking, better material, etc. My only issues with it seem to be the pouch capacity compared to the Hollister. It seems smaller and I’m having high output. I also had trouble attaching the pouch to the barrier. Hopefully it will get easier the more frequently I use it. I’m a little bit lost about the filter you refer to, and the pre-filter you mention. Where can I get more information on them? Thanks!

    Love this review! I'm a lover of the sensura mio 2 piece. Having mostly used2 pieces since the start because my stoma is so low but very active I need the bigger bags overnight but can't function during the day so like a smaller option. I was using the original sensura click system but heard so much hype about these I trialed the 1 piece before they had released the 2 piece. What a failure. Out of the flat base I wasn't even managing 12 hours before seepage started from the actual stoma site. The convex which in used to at least got me 18 hrs but still not a winner, but I was 1 of the 1st to try the 2 piece on release and initial thoughts were good but once again it wasnt convex, whilst my Eric stands very proud the liquid stool and his ability to jig about means more issues along the inner edge. I stuck to my trusted click system until I got a call saying my company had snuck a few convex plates out of a seminar, they were bigger base than normal but did I want to try. I shower about 5 times a day, am a naturally hot person with hyperhydrosis. My initial test run on these took me to 17 days total. With extenders going on at 10 days Because the outer edge looked tatty. It was eventually changed because it looked very messy and I was concerned about the skin under it! Skin is perfect and has mostly been for the 2 years ive been using. I do find a ring Helps but only to give a better defence against acidic Eric! I sometimes clean my bag out with water. It may reduce the weartime of your wafer, so use warm water and don't let it spend too much time at the level of your stoma. For the protective rings, I don't use them unless I need to, which is really rare. Some people use them regularly, but unless there's a good reason I would avoid them because adding unecessary products to your routine will likely create more problems. Take care.

My only issue is that you get a 10 pack on the pouches and only 5 disposal bags. Your surgeon would have a better idea of the risks and whether it would be best to have a reversal. There are risks, but they might be minor in your case. You are welcome to join my community forum to ask others for their opinions, but I think that joining a group where people have had a reversal may benefit you more as my forums are mostly people who have ostomies and once they have the reversal there's no reason to stay on the forum 😂 Best of luck!

They were going to reverse it in February, but had a schedule change, and then another schedule change. I'm now scheduled for the end of this month, and I don't want to have it reversed just to have to go through another surgery if it fails. At our age multiple surgeries are riskier than for younger people, and I know what you mean about having the pain again! You are certainly not alone in that!

    I currently use a hollister 2 pc system. I hate the filter as it typically only lasts 30 min tops. Then I have to burp my bag a lot. How easy is it to burp coloplast? With the frequency that I need to burp it it needs to be easy to do.

    I find Hollister filters to be better than these, but it really can depend on the consistency of our output. I don't find Coloplast bags easy to burp because the flange is more rigid and tends to come completely off if you try. Burping from the bottom is an option (while you lay down). These filters may work better for you without needing to do anything. Just sample them for a week or two and see. ✌️

    What type of Drainable pouch would you recommend best to use? ×I am aware you aren't a medical person, or are you? Me have an awful lot of watery output past few weeks - may be due to failing to remenber to take my Imodium overnight.

    I wish there was an easy answer to that, Alan. Because each person's skin and stoma are unique, I tend to suggest sampling various products until you find something that works well. If you were to contact each of the major manufacturers (Hollister, Coloplast, ConvaTec, etc.), they will likely recommend a product from their catalog that would suit you best - then try them and see which one you prefer. For water output, regardless of the appliance used, I tend to suggest using a gelling product inside of the pouch. Alternatively, if you don't want or can't use a gelling product, look into "high output" drainable bags, which tend to have a spout to make emptying easier, and they often tend to accommodate a higher volume of output.

    Would you recommend these over hollister's two piece new image? I have been using that for 4 years now because that is just what they gave me, but idk recently I have been wondering if there is anything better out there. This seems to be the best bag line compared to other ones I have looked at. It looks sleek, and seems like it works well. Are there other bags you recommend more than these? Do you know if they made it vegan, now that it has been 5 years?

    Definitely sample new products if something isn't working for you or if you feel you could do better. I've been a 2pc hollister user for years, but the Mios are good. As far as I know, these are still not vegan (I have a list that gets updated when new info comes in on my website).

    @@KamiltheCamel For medical devices and prescription meds, I see nothing wrong with non-vegan options if they work to keep you healthy or safe. Don't feel that you have to compromise to keep it vegan (of course, if you have the option of using non-vegan items that work the same, go for those!). I like the Hollister 2pc because it's minimal, reliable, and easy to care for. I also appreciate that the wafers are individually sealed, which makes them easy to travel with and store. Not to say that the Mio's are bad, they aren't, but given the choice, I prefer the 2pc Hollister (and they are free of animal-ingredients, which is a bonus).

    Hi Eric. Love your videos. I am currently two weeks out of surgery with an ileostomy. I am doing very well. I left the hospital with the Hollister 2 piece system. I have received samples from Coloplast and Convatec. I am currently wearing the Coloplast Wafer #10512 and Wide Opening Bag #11472. I am not able to get the bag to rotate freely when the locking tab is unlocked. Is there another bag that freely rotates or is there something I'm not doing right.

    As always, Eric to my rescue! Coloplast sent me a HUGE Sensura Mio sample bag. 6 barriers(3 flip/3 oval), pouches & seals. The instruction video on their site is corrupted? Your video was a great option.. I explained to Coloplast, that I was starting to prolapse(1/8-1/4) & developed a hernia. Didn't always cover it when Coughing. I was told by Rn's that Convex was for little stomas that are at or below skin line. Mine looks Exactly like yours, minus hair & add 5-10 lbs of fat. Issue: the base of my stoma is no longer perfect round. Like on your photo, it has a slight projection(under 1/8) on the medial side. I tried to crust it, poor. Now tried cutting a little notch on the barrier. Suggestions?

    Great review! One question though, you said it usually takes three days before you change the wafer for one reason or another. How often do you switch bags? Will you keep the same bag and wafer for three days or do you change bags more often or maybe even keep them longer? Usually when I sleep my filter tends to fill up so changing bag everyday seems reasonable. Is the filter only there for letting air out? If thats the case I could easily keep the bag even if the filter is full since I dont tend to pass much gas anyway. Thanks!

  • @VeganOstomy

    @VeganOstomy

    7 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! I almost always change my bag and wafer at the same time. The exceptions to this could be because I have a damaged bag or prematurely clogged filter, and in those cases, I may swap the bag out. I do find that the Mio filters didn't work as well as Hollister filters do, but it's not a problem to swap out the bag every day if you need to (hopefully you get them covered by insurance!). The filter is there to release gas and deodorize the gas that's coming out (rather than just "burping" the bag, which does nothing for odor control). You can certainly wear the bag for many days, even if it's clogged, but if you find that the filter leaks (i.e. the output comes through it), then swap the bag whenever you feel like it (or cover it with a filter sticker)

  • @suarezzcrew

    Thanks for the reply! Great info and yes my bags are covered by insurance so maybe Ill stick to changing everyday if it still insist on clogging every night. Or I might even give the filterless a go and add a EZ-vent if I need to get rid of some air. Thanks again and keep it up! :)

  • @VeganOstomy

    @VeganOstomy

    7 жыл бұрын

    You can certainly do that. Two things: The EZ-Vent does not deodorize the gas and it requires you to open it up so it won't work passively. But other than that, it's easier to "burp" Coloplast bags with the EZ-Vent than to try to do it by opening it up at the flange.

    True! It would be like when a "normal" person decides to let one rip. Find a good spot where no one is standing and let it out. Only this doesnt make a sound. Although we get to have surprise fartsounds that we cant control so i guess its even ^^ Yeah trying to let out it out through the flange seems way to risky. Thanks again!

    The newer Coloplast with the convex support made in four levels are best I have ever used. Combine one of the four support type that you need ;their rings ; barrier stripes and Torbot skin tack barrier wipes and you have the most secure; leak proof system I have used in 19 years with a ostomy. The problem of original MIO many had was that being so flexible if you have what is called stoma pancake especially when lying on back at night the waste will be under the ring. Just the Torbot tacky wipes will really help with any bag system compared to the dry barriers. Pancake is when you stoma contracts as waste is coming out for those are familiar with the term.I use their one piece and since using the light support bags have never had a leak ;in conjunction with Skin tack wipes. Check Coloplast site and call if you want to try the newer bags with support.I staredt with the soft support bags but found the light worked best for me.

    Around 11:30 you had talked about sagging of the pouch. Did you notice on your stoma any damage (bruising, bleeding, discoloration) from the filter pushing into any part of your stoma? You have said that you wear your pouches with the drainage outlet at 3oclock or 9 oclock, but did you sample this product w/ the outlet at 6oclock and notice the sagging?

    +Heidi Schultz Hi Heidi. I mentioned that this pouch does NOT sag, so this is not a concern. I have used other pouches that sag and don't notice any damage or bleeding caused by it, but it could be possible that someone might experience those issues in certain situations and with specific products. For all my reviews, I wear the appliance as intended by the manufacturer (6 o'clock), but I do also wear my appliances horizontally so it's something I like to mention. 😀

    +Heidi Schultz That's unfortunate! What size flange does your appliance have? Perhaps a larger or smaller flange that the one I use could give it more opportunity to sag. When I wear my appliance on its side, I always wear it in a support belt 😀

    Hey Mark, I'm not sure of any specific brands or products available in Ireland (I'm in Canada), but I would investigate what the major brands offer: Coloplast, ConvaTec, Hollister, B. Braun, Salts. All of them will have similar styles of product, but the adhesives used react differently to everyone, and it's best to sample what you can before settling on anything. I would not add any extra products unless they are absolutely required/recommended by a stoma nurse - most of the time, adding more products unnecessarily can lead to problems.

    I’ve been wearing an ileostomy for one week now. And I have been having leaks/accidents since I was released from the hospital last Friday. I am so discouraged. The skin around my stoma is red. I just want a bag that works.

    Hi Jen. I had leaks too after my surgery, but with some trial and error, things will get better. Did you already see the wound clinic? Will they have a stoma nurse there that you could speak to? Typically, when you have gaps on your skin, you'll need to fill them with stoma paste or even a barrier ring. Depending on your stoma, many people find convex appliances to be very helpful. But the skin around your stoma needs to be healed, and if it's not then you will need to have a nurse help to find a solution. Fortunately, I find that raw/red skin tends to heal very quickly when given the right opportunities (1-2 days), so there is some hope. Good luck!

    I think the Mio Flex Flip is a great development but their pouch system is much inferior to Hollister's in my opinion. Specifically the pouch dump system with the cloth velcro is an invitation to contamination as it absorbs splashes and doesn't allow for a thorough cleaning as does Hollister's brand.
