    For those who can't see the difference, it's in the very beginning, when you put the needle to the thread. With the French knot you can just lay the needle onto the string and start wrapping. With the Colonial knot you have to start with a sort of half wrap up the needle

    Hmm, they might look very similar, but definitely the method of wrapping the thread on the needle is different ;)

    A friend of mine that's had 40 years experience of embroidery says colonial knot is far superior. It stsys better.
