Before the internet, my Dad sent me on a search for a song he loved which wasnt in the charts and had had a random play on the radio. I managed to find it for him amazingly. I couldn't remember what it was called but have just found it again on a cd I made him some years ago. The words are quite poignant now as he has just passed away, 5 months after my Mother passed away. This is a beautiful song and I am glad I have rediscovered it, he, like me, always liked songs with stories.

It actually is well known and was very popular with mine and my parents generation. My brother had it played at his wife's funeral this past June because it was her favorite.

this song was played at my dad’s funeral. he sang this song all the time after his dad died. today is the first day after a year that i’ve been able to even search the song but i can’t listen to it. i wish he was still here because he was my best friend. i feel like i have nobody and life doesn’t feel worth living. i’m only 16. i hope it gets better for me and everyone listening to this masterpiece of a song

Why did youtube brought this to my feed? This was my dad's favourite song. And now people sitting close ne where staring at me cos they saw tears dropping from my eyes while i have not even noticed it. My dad played this song when he lost my grand dad and jow i am a coward in such u way that i cabt bring myself to listen tobthis song. Rest in power Daddy. This song makes me feel like ending it all

You're right :-) Today's generation doesn't appreciate country songs that much. I'm from the Philippines but I really like country music and this is one of my favorite....I can't help my tears from falling everytime I play this song....such a wonderful song :-)

Every time I listen to this song, I am reminded of my husband. Before we met, I felt like I'd gotten to the meeting point and he was running late. No matter how tough my inner strength just almost cry each time I heard this song....

The letter was such a brilliant piece of writing in the song, and played a huge role in the storytelling. "If you get there before I do Don't give up on me I'll meet you when my chores are through I don't know how long I'll be But I'm not gonna let you down Darling wait and see And between now and then till I see you again I'll be loving you Love, me" Which was written so it can be interpreted to have two different connotations in the two situations present in the song If you get (to the place we arranged to meet) / (heaven) Don't give up on me But I still have things I need to do (life I need to live) I don't know how, but I'll meet you there in the end I'll remember you Love, me Which can be interpreted as signing off the letter, or a question asking for a reciprocation of this love. This double meaning of the letter, combined with the juxtaposition of the two speakers and the two time periods, creates an even more powerful message It's beautiful writing

I feel like I watch a love story! No,not the usual one those days, but kind of old fashion story when people love more, forgive more often and hate less. Im 52years old but I feel like these lyrics comes from another world forgotten somewhere far away. This song has si meaningful words which just touch the sensitive string of heart. Nowadays songs are different, are about cars, women, drugs and money, are about "things" rather than feelings. I add this song at my favourite list. Once you hear this song you can never forgot it.
