    Lol seriously? If a guy can't throw a strike then it makes no difference how hard he throws?!? Lol look at how many guys play the field and have a cannon? Why dosent elly de la Cruz pitch if he is throwing the ball almost 100 across the diamond? Because it's not all about how hard you throw.

    fastball is straight and has trouble commanding it, offspeed is good. Good hitters know that if you're throwing 99 that you're going to rely on the fastball so mix in alot of offspeed, they're sitting on that fastball and adjusting for anything else.

    Everyone is so worried abour velo but what would happen if he dropped down below 95 and actually worked on controling the pitches i bet he would be a damn good pitcher. I get it this is practice so thats the time to work on command, but i already know everyone puts such a high value on velo but it only works if you can put it where you want. Thats what made nolan ryan so good cause he could put any pitch exactly where he wanted it.

    Lots of guys get yipped up when "dialing it back" when facing hitters. Nolan Ryan also has the all time highest number of walks though, so not sure that we'd classify him as being able to put it wherever he wanted it. Incredible pitcher though!

  • @beatndagutta

    @beatndagutta

    Well, I don’t know if Nolan Ryan is the best example, considering he has walked the most people and major league history by a longshot, but he also struck out the most no one. Ryan was known for walking 7 8 9 batters a game. On occasion. So I don’t think the Nolan ryan comparison is really fitting.

Throwing every pitch from the stretch is why by the time this child is 19 he will have at least one surgery And if this radar gun of the 21st century was used in the 70s 80s 60s gooden Ryan and Gibson would have clocked 125-140 mph

    A&M pitching is bad. They needed a new pitching coach. But Cortez got a long ways to go. I would basically make him slow down a bit. Smoothing it out. Just throw your fastball around 93 until you got it controlled. I have coach alot of players who threw in the mid 90's but could not throw strikes. They can only throw strikes in the upper 80s. So A&M might considering putting this guy in the bullpen until he learns to throw strikes 90% of the time.
