    @@User-wh1mh it's not fair to a team that is great at defense. Starting at the 25 pretty much guarantees at least a field goal attempt

    @@VidaBlue317 40+ yard field goals are not a guarantee for college kickers, and since the other team also starts at the 25, it would be hard to win overtime by just (possibly) scoring field goals.

    It's too dangerous and a lot more players may get hurt. I think it's better if NFL has field goal kick off after each team has 1 possession.

    @@CopperFather that's not really an argument in favor of college football... How much has any football organization really shown to care about the actual health of their players, especially the NCAA that aggressively tries to make players disadvantaged? Like, more playing time leads to more injuries. Do you think the NCAA actually cares about the health of players? That's probably one of the most naïve things I've heard, they have a stranglehold on these players and FORCE THEM to play without play and risk injury for a chance to enter the NFL and make real money.

    I kind of agree. I think that college overtime has problems but each time not getting the ball in the NFL is stupid. I think if they did each team has a chance at offense and then the next team kicks a field goal and wins that'll be fine

    They need to move the starting position back to the 35 or so, so you at least have to gain yards to move into field goal range.

    No inherent value in getting the ball first? I guess not, but there is value in getting the ball last, as the last team wins most of the games.

    For a while I preferred the college extra innings system (only I advocated for having normal special teams), but now I prefer the NFL version more. The team with the first possession has a very minimal advantage record-wise under the current NFL rules, and I think that's the best trait an overtime system can have.

    Ending ties in NCAAFB is a good step. Now just have to get to a minimum 16 team playoff system, because obviously after yesterday, seeing LSU & Oklahoma go down; to "lower ranked teams" (NOT meaning lesser teams); shows that the ranking system is a horrible method to determine playoff deserving teams. Could you imagine if NFL, NBA, NHL, & NCAAB only matched the top 4 "ranked teams?" Who stand for that ridiculousness?

  • @theleftuprightatsoldierfield

    @theleftuprightatsoldierfield

    David Winn i honestly think a 24 team playoff would work best. However, it would take way too long and would end up mostly at the same time as the NFL playoffs. A more time-efficient solution would be a 10 or 12 team playoff with 4 rounds. The 10 team playoff would work like this: there would be 2 play-in games, which would be 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9. The first round would consist of 4 games: 1 vs the winner of 8v9, 4 vs 5, 3 vs 6, and 2 vs the winner of 7v10. From there it would follow a normal format. The 12 team playoff would work like this: the top 4 seeds would get first round byes. The first round would consist of 4 games: 5 vs 12, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, and 8 vs 9. The second round would also consist of 4 games: 1 vs the winner of 8v9, 4 vs the winner of 5v12, 3 vs the winner of 6v11, and 2 vs the winner of 7v10. From there it would follow a normal format.

    spence that is impossible. If the number of teams is equal to a power of 2, (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.) you cannot have a bracket where any teams have byes.

    Am I the only one that likes the possibility of ties? The NFL's current overtime rules are terrible though. This is obviously way better. I'd say if the NFL were to adopt this, they should do it like the CFL, where during the regular season, if both teams have possessed the ball twice in overtime and the score is still tied, the game just ends as a tie. In the postseason, it'd be like college football, where it goes to a shootout situation with each team attempting to score two-point conversions.
