This is the perfect video for me! I'm moving into a Murphree two room double and I have the front room so this video shows me exactly what my room will look like! Thank you so much for making this video because I couldn't find anything about what the floorplans or actual dorm looks like. UF isn't very good at showing dorm rooms so thank you!

How many different dorm halls are there? I plan on going to UF in the future since it is my dream university.

I'm not sure of the exact number but I would say more than 10. If you Google UF Housing then you will find information about each dorm here on campus!

This is such a helpful video because there is no information about the Murphree rooms! Did your desk come like that with the white on top or did you make it like that and if so, how?

I'm so glad you put this up, there's so little info on Murphree. My daughter is staying on the 3rd floor in E Hall. Does this mean the kitchen is on the 2nd floor, also? She'll be in a 2 room double. She'd prefer the room w/the sink, but I thought I noticed the A/C is in the other room and if the door is closed it would be a lot warmer in there. Any opinion?

Hi! I totally agree about the lack of info for Murphree area. I think the kitchen is on the second floor in each Hall for this building, so yes. Murphree has central AC. The AC unit is located in the first room, but both rooms have their own AC vents in the ceiling and my roommate and I never noticed a difference when the door was closed. If she doesn't get the back room, she can still share the sink with her roommate, but there is also a sink in the communal bathroom she can always use! If you have anymore questions let me know!

@@amandaraecarr9637 I'm so glad there are vents for the A/C in both rooms. She'll be a freshman, which I saw you said wasn't the best for making friends living there, but I think it is a better setup than some place too rowdy like Broward. Her roommate is a Sophomore, so I believe my daughter will have first pick. I love the 3 sets of windows in the first room, but she definitely wants that sink in her room. I know they share it. I'm glad there are still windows in the 2nd room too!

One last question, before I move my daughter in on 8/15... the mirror that is hanging over the interior door; is that all right? Will the RAs frown on that? I saw them at the store, I'm just not sure if the RAs allow. Thank you!

After living in a two different dorms with two different RA's none of them ever said anything about it! (: A lot of the girls have them in their rooms.

Another question, if you don't mind... would you have preferred having a larger rug in your room? If so, any idea on the size it could handle? Those old, linoleum floors I wouldn't think would feel good on your feet, especially after a nice clean shower.

I liked the size of my rug, but I would definitely say it's a personal preference! I'm not sure what size it was, but I would recommend seeing the room first and then buy/order a rug after if you aren't sure! I wore my birks sandals all the time in the room because I don't like being barefoot indoors and helped keep my feet warm (:

Hey girl! I commented once last year so hello again! I'm staying in a two-room double this year and I'm wondering if you know how the room numbers work? My room number is 4 digits so I'm really confused as to what floor I'm on. For example, if I was 1135 (not my actual number for privacy reasons) which floor would I be on? Thank you!

Hi! You would be level 1 room 135! The first digit is the floor level 😊

are all the two-room doubles like that? as in having a door in between.

Yes, they all have a door separating the two rooms!

Hi! I got into UF for Fall 2020 and am trying to figure out the dorm situation. When I visited Murphree Area was super pretty and made me want to request living there but you mentioned it's not the best for freshmen? Besides Broward, which dorm halls are best for freshmen? If I request and get a room in Murphree Area will it be really hard to make friends there? Thanks!

Hi Kinga! Congrats on getting in UF -- that's awesome! I only said it isn't the best for freshman because there are only 8 people on each floor whereas in freshman dorms there 40-60. Just means you have a lower opportunity to make more friends. I personally felt like the students living in my dorm freshman year were more approachable because every freshman was trying to make friends! It's all personal preference because one of my Murphree neighbors was a freshman. The other two well-known freshman dorms are Jennings and Rawlings.

Heyyy I'm an international student starting this fall at UF, I have been trying to figure out where to live since I'm considering on-campus housing but UF videos are not very informative. Would it be possible if you did a video on the different dorms and how they differ etc? thank you ^_^

Hi Mayla! Congrats on getting into UF -- you are going to love it! Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to make a video like that. If you are coming in as a freshman though then I would recommend Jennings, Broward or Rawlings Hall for dorms. Those were the most popular freshman dorms when I started school here!

My blue backpack is North Face and the blue purse on my bedpost is from Longchamp! Both were a little pricey but they have lasted me YEARS 😊

Hi Amanda, it's me again. I'm moving my D up to Murphree Hall in 2 days. I was wondering, the place that she does her laundry -- can she cut thru a building or does she have to go all the way around Thomas to get there? Also, where do you guys dump your garbage out at? I know these seem trivial, but I like to know all I can :)

Hi Joan, The laundry is located in Murphree Commons Area so she will have to walk outside past Thomas to get to it. There is a dumpster behind Thomas hall, across from the Moe's restaurant that I would take my trash to. Have a great move in!

Thank you so much for posting this! I've been trying to find more info on the Murphree dorms for forever. I'm starting my first year at UF and my roommate and I have a two room double in Murphree Hall. We were considering putting both of our beds in the back room because of the sink and closets being in there, and then having our study/makeshift living room as the front room. From your experience (and because it's kind of hard to tell through a video) do you think there's enough space for two beds to comfortably fit in the back room? We're not too concerned about space but I would rather not feel crammed in there lol.

I'm happy you found it helpful!! I have heard that some people do that with the beds, but usually they do that if one room is a little smaller than the other. I ended up with a two room double that had same size rooms and I wanted my own space so that's why i didn't do that. BUT you could definitely fit two beds in the back room and then have your dressers and desks in the front room!

Some two room doubles have one room smaller than the other. The only way to tell though when selecting your room is by looking at the floor plan in the Murphree Common Area.
