I think “prestigious” colleges get too much of a hard on when they cause applicants to squirm with anxiety over application decisions. Students are basically cheering to go deep into a lifetime of debt. All because the mythos around being part of the academic inner circle is so perpetuated by the public. I’m more than 15 years out from this very same experience and can say from the other end looking backwards that it truly does not matter. So for any recent high school graduates out there who may have not gotten into their dream school, my message to you is keep your head up. You’ll likely have Yale grads working under you in the future. Your alma mater is a very small piece of the overall picture of your self worth.

UMich does this thing where they reject really good students to keep their rates low. So you got rejected by the top public university because you were to smart for them! Thats an absolute win in my opinion!

Yale doesn’t have early decision but they have restrictive early action where you can apply to only Yale (and any public schools) to get your acceptance early. A lot of people are deferred though
