I was thinking the same thing. Funny, smart she actually belongs in an ivy but these colleges with their lies “we are test optional.” Right…just another way of weeding people out because they just have too many to read.

You are seriously hilarious I was dying the whole time! 😂 If it makes you feel any better, I went to CSUN (which I was so embarrassed that I didn’t get into any UC schools at the time) and I got a degree. Now I make more money than every person in my entire family (1 even went to an Ivy). It’s true… Doesn’t matter where you go bc at the end of the day, it’s just getting a degree that matters! LMFAOO uci was so relatable as i simply couldnt log in to their status portal whatsoever😹 but yea honestly was indeed a uc bloodbath this year and i likewise got rejected/waitlisted everywhere besides ucsc and ucr too. but yea it is what it is. gluck to u in the future and im sure ull be great wherever u go.

No bc I applied to UCI as a safety from OOS and I got straight up rejected… not to mention the portal this year was just awful. It took me an hour just to get in the portal to be disappointed. But hey, I got into UNC and USC + Georgia Tech as a transfer so I’ll take my few dubs and leave 💀

The UC system accepts tens of thousands of transfers a year, so if that is really important to you that path is still very much open. The UC and CSU systems are both designed to allow Community College graduates to move to a four year program after they finish the AA. But that also leaves room for transfers between these schools as well.

I throughly enjoyed watching this video. By far the most entertaining CDR video of the 2022 admissions season. You’re going to go far, regardless of which college you attend. Please provide an update when you make a decision.

You should have applied to Calarts as an art and or acting major. You are clearly a very creative and talented. - this video is amazing! Doesn’t really matter where you go, you can always transfer if you don’t like your choice. I’m sure you can get in most anywhere as a transfer with those stats or just stay where you got in. My daughter applied to 12 schools and only got into her bottom 6. Was waitlisted at her top 6 choices. Her safeties and her lowest ranking target school were the only admits- all were decent enough schools but she wanted out of the bidwest. Bummer because she, like you had amazing stats. Her field is very competitive where only 5-10% get in. I wish you the best.

You can always go to a community college and transfer to a UC. That's what I ended up doing. My situation was even worse since I graduated with a bunch of Ds that made me ineligible for even the CSU schools, but I eventually went on to earn my BS and MS from UCSD. Don't worry too much - this is just the beginning.

Damn, I feel like we had really similar stats but I got into all the UCs except for Berkeley and UCLA(I was waitlisted). I literally had the same gpa as you, except my unweighted was slightly higher. My extracurriculars were a bit different, I was the treasurer for a service club, tutored, research mentor, writer for a cardiology newsletter, varsity tennis, and some small clubs that I didn't really mention or talk about. To be honest, it seems like you had the stats but UC admissions were pretty competitive this year

Went to Cal Poly Pomona, a CSU. In a top 5 grad program currently. It's not the end of the world. No one cares where you go to school anyways unless you're trying to become a consultant or some crap like that after undergrad. I will say though that grad school is treated a bit differently though depending on what roles you're trying to push yourself into in the work force.

Ayo!! I did not take any SAT or ACT either. I hate the system and I am a horrible test taker and I cannot take test under pressure for the sake of my life. However, I am class of 2023 and I am hoping that I get into somewhere next year... I am very scared

I feel you!! My daughter just got waitlisted by UC Davis a few days ago- she has 4.28 GPA, an Eagle scout, 2 black belts ( Karate, Mixed Martial Art). Best prosecutor in our county for Mock Trial! SO, WHAT THE FUCK! In my times (1990), it was very easy to tell, without the use of online resources (the Internet as we know it today did not exist) if you were accepted to the university of your choice. When you got your mail around March 15 of your senior year, you would find your college admission decisions for UCLA and UC Berkeley. Other UCs would send you their decisions earlier, especially if you were accepted. No internet back then so it was all done by US mail. Big fat document sized envelope: You got in. Standard size thin envelope: You did not get in. Back then, the admission rate for UCLA was around 43 percent and Berkeley's was around 34 percent. USC's rate was around 70 percent. And up to around 1986, you could apply to only one UC campus, unlike today when you can apply to all UCs at once. In 1980 UCLA's admission rate was 74 percent.

Hey Unni! Congrats on getting accepted to so many! I understand the struggle of Asian parents forcing their children into going to a school/major that they're not interested in. My Asian mom can be a bit controlling sometimes and my dad always tells me "I mean you're an adult. so do what you wanna do... what's she gonna do? Chase you to Earth's end to do what she wants?"

No SAT?

With your grades, why didn't you apply to colleges that were just as good and would love to have you attend? You could have received a full ride to schools across the country. I am constantly amazed that so many students apply to a very limited list of schools only to be devastated when they don't get accepted. Have a list that consists of 1st and 2nd tier schools. The main point is that you are attending college and getting your degree. When I applied to school, I applied to 1st and 2nd tier schools and to schools that would take a miracle to get into. I was accepted to all 15 of them,. The Harvard acceptance was a stunner because I thought I had no chance and looking back on it, I am glad I decided not to go. Though family circumstances kept me closer to home, I attended a state school that gave me a very good education for what I wanted to do and this school was not even my 2nd tier choice. It was a good decision because I paid less for the same education I would have received at the 1st and 2nd tier schools. Thinking outside the box just might get you closer to your goals. Your take on the whole thing was still kinda funny. Best of luck to you.

I don’t think it’s safe to assume that she would just gotten a full ride to a private or out of state school, especially if she didn’t take the SAT/ACT. She told us in the video that she applied to most of the schools she did because they gave her application fee waivers. It’s not like she applied to all ivies or all T-20 schools. She applied to a variety of in-state schools, which is what every applicant should do.

@@kimbridge I didn't make those assumptions. In her area, she has many great institutions that are not private are in fact public and would have given her consideration w/o even though she did not take the SAT/ACT. Many institutions encouraged students to apply BECAUSE they were waiving application fees and foregoing SAT/ACT tests due to the Pandemic. All of the schools she applied to are traditionally very difficult to get into before all of this and it's pretty well known that there is a tremendous amount of competition for very few spots in school.

@@kaelahmoore3717 There was a girl in Arkansas who applied to 54 schools. She was accepted to ALL 54 schools. When asked how she could afford the application fees, she indicated that 2 apps allowed her to waive all of the application fees. She applied to all of the HBCU and they have an app that allows you to apply for FREE. Then she found another app that did the same thing for public and private institutions across the country. We can want all we want when we have the money, but one must be realistic in one's financial ability to pay. When you want it bad, you make adjustments so you can get a good education. If this young lady from Arkansas could find information to apply to those institutions, I can't see why she couldn't. She closed her mind off to any other considerations. Hope she has a backup plan.

couple things here to keep in mind and im going to be blunt about it because it's important to not misconstrue shit. 1. a UC is not the best educational option out there. It is not the pinnacle of college education and it is certainly not going to lead to the highest paying job. I still think the only reason people love the UC's so much is because of the lifestyle California has to offer or atleast what it seems to offer. Palm trees and the beach are very appealing especially to young adults. But please don't base 4 years of your time and thousands of dollars off of that. 2. You need more ec's. Frankly, anyone can "excel" in community service or a job. Those don't set you apart from anyone. While a 4.6 gpa is amazing, it isn't going to set you apart from the thousands of other applicants. You need to show you're well rounded with skillful activities such as a debate team, sports team, math team, etc. You get my point.

also keep in mind, no college is obligated to accept you. You thinking that they owe you a spot in their school because you have good grades is ignorant of what these educational systems are founded upon. They are very commonly private institutions that are allowed to base their admissions off whatever they want.
