I met CS in dec 1997. I was visiting family in Veracruz, Mexico. So i tuned mtv and the Listen video came up. I loved the song that much, that i buyed the album and considered to learn how to make music. Which i did for a long time. Greetings from Zapopan, MX.

I agree with your number 1 pick. Blender is my personal favorite. Also totally agree with you on the guitar tones on SWYSBC. A great album but the guitar tones were kind of dull.

Blender is also probably my favorite record. So many great hits and I love the mix of pop and rock on that album. Look forward to a Skin cover on KZread within the next month or two

I recall working at my desk in '95 and attempting to catch up on the last couple years of alt/alt punk music, writing down everything I heard on the radio for about two weeks and then blowing the money to get the CDs in one fell swoop. Bands like: Bush, Better Than Ezra, Goo Goo Dolls, Live, Supergrass, Bad Religion, Rancid, Everclear, Garbage, etc. Among those discs, Collective Soul's self-titled stood out, of course, and then I recalled, "Hey, this is the band that sings, 'Shine'." An "a-ha" moment. Years later, my girlfriend bought me "Dosage" but wanted me to look at the back cover first and see if I could figure out who they were. I couldn't muster a guess, as the band seemed unrecognizable, but the album knocked my socks off. Every. Single. Song. "Blender" too.

Had I not found your video, I wouldn't have known CS had a new album out. Thanks. Recently, I just got around to giving Vibrating a spin. Nice list. I'm surprised Blender is at the top. I love this album but I know it was received poorly by "critics". My top three: 3) Blender. 2) Collective Soul. 1) Dosage.

I dont have any kind of channel on here or anything but Im a diehard Collective Soul fan. Ive seen them in concert about 10 times or so and am always impressed. I like this video despite the fact that I saw this list and thank you for doing it but...I find it hilarious that almost everything you said I disagree with. lol. This would be mine... 12. Vibrating - Boring songs especially after it followed what I consider to be one of their best - Blood for 1 main reason...IT WAS FUN! It's a great fun listen that Vibrating just isnt in my opinion. 11. Blender - Funny that you think it's their best. Besides the first 3, Perfect Day and probably After All Im done. 10. See What You Started By Continuing - Too much average stuff from mid to end although funny you said Without Me does nothing for you... I think this is one of their most underrated. Love it. 9. Hints, Allegations ... - It sounded exactly like Ed said...a garage recording that he threw together. Its DAM impressive considering but compared to the others...NO. Shine is the epitome of incredible though. 8. Afterwards 7. Disciplined Breakdown 6. Rabbit - In my opinion the most underrated of all CS albums. Every song is a good listen even the fillers. No LP that is THIS good should go SO unnoticed. 5. Here to Eternity - I hated it at first but have listened to it so much and appreciate how much variety of music is on it. It's a fun listen because of all the different things going on. 4. Blood - I love it. As I said above it's just plain fun. Another great last song too with Porch Swing. Before that I'd take every song on it but 1-7 is as good as I've heard CS in a long time before Blood. 3. Youth - I laughed that you hate this so much. I think 1-8 match any album they've ever done and I love Satellite at the end. 2. Collective Soul - No explanation needed. Loaded with hits and my favorite rock ballad of the 90's - The World I Know. 1. Dosage - This is the easiest listen of any CS album up to THE ONE AND CROWN but She Said at the end is the best hidden song I've heard on any album PERIOD. I put this over #2 BARELY simply because of it's variety. It's not just hard rocking like the self titled album. Heavy, No More No Less and Needs is this band at its ABSOLUTE VERY BEST! Thanks again for your list and that's the beauty of lists. Agree or disagree, they're fun. And thats what it's about. Glad to see someone is giving credit to this amazing band finally. More people need to listen to them because if they did they'd realize what they;ve been missing. What I'd like to hear is someone explain to me how and why this band is the most underrated I've ever heard. They deserve far more credit then they've ever had. PERIOD.

Interesting. I'm surprised by the Youth and HTE rankings. I'd probably swap those. My list.. 1- Dosage 2- Blue 3- Blender 4- Youth 5- Dis Breakdown 6- Afterwords 7- Blood 8- Rabbit 9- Vibrating 10- See What You Started 11- Hints 12- Here To Eternity I cannot get into HTE. Listened to it three times straight through and can't find one song I like. I should probably try again. Hints doesn't really count for me. I do think Blood is the best of the Jesse genre. In terms of stuff I've scene live, the Blood songs (Right As Rain, Over Me) are better than SWYS (AYTA was cool live) and Rabbit songs, although Welcome was awesome on the Dosage tour I do wonder if I have some bias because I came into the CS scene during Dosage, with Blender quick to follow. Saw the band on those tours and I don't think they've replicated that era quite yet. As you say, still some great stuff out there.

Just found your channel. Solid ranking, and agree with you that CS doesn't have a bad release in their catalog; only quibble, or disagreement, is that i would have put Rabbit higher in my ranking. Top 3 for me would be, in no specific order: Hints, Blender, and Dosage.

@@themindseyecmh Agree 100%. A very difficult catalog to rank because there are no stinkers; the band has been very consistent throughout their history.

Interesting ranking. I’m surprised you like Afterwards so much, but not Youth. They’re practically companion records to me. I also think there are plenty of “home run hits” on Youth. Some of your least favorite song mentions on these albums are also some of my favorites. “Them Blues” is probably my second favorite song on Blood, and I’d say that “Confession” is likely my top song pick on See What You Started By Continuing. I got to hear that first performed by Ed Roland & The Sweet Tea Project back in 2013. At the time, Ed said - “This is a new song we just wrote. Don’t know if it’ll end up on the next Sweat Tea album, or the next Collective Soul album, but we hope you dig it”. (Two years later, we found out.) Not sure how I’d rank them myself, especially #1, but Rabbit would probably be last. Until recently, I would have been really surprised at Blender being not only so high, but also the Top pick. However, I’ve recently been on a re-discovery kick of the band’s catalog (which is what brought me here), and I forgot just how strong that album is. Just song for song a really solid album. Keep up the great work!

That's the great thing about Collective Soul, they have such a strong catalog... songs that don't work for me might be the next person's favorite and vis versa lol
