Collection, processing and storage of fern spores

Fern spores can be stored in a similar way to orthodox seeds, though their short lifespan means that drying, processing and storage must occur quickly to maximise viability. Tom North, Seed Bank Curator at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, guides us through the collection, handling and drying process for fern spores. These techniques are described in detail in Chapter 13 of the Germplasm Guidelines.
