I am also a minimalist and a collector. I'm a big believer in physical media and owning the things you purchase. I'm also a big movie and music nerd and love to re-watch and re-listen to stuff all the time. What I did with my own DVD/Blu Ray collection was to get rid of the cases and put the artwork and CD's into plastic sleeves. I then put those sleeves into an open shoe box which rests on my desk. There's probably like 50 DVD's/Blu Ray's and CD's inside of it, I just flick through and pick out what I want to watch and I love it. I used the space the DVD's took up before to store the novels I love.

Hello Joakim! I actually got to a point in my life where I had too much of a collection, ranging from figures to comics. It got to the point to where I was collecting things I had 0 sentimental value with or honestly dislike yet still purchase for the sake of it. I hit that realization a month ago, and once I did it became very easy to see the things I can easily sell away. So this video absolutely taught me a few things, and I appreciate your sharing of minimalism and your collecting. My wife and I are moving back to the US for a smaller space, so this is an ideal time for me to start cutting back.

I´m so happy to hear that my video could put things in even more perspective for you. I hope that you can find value in earlier and future videos about this subject. I recently moved and talked about feeling the actual weight of the collection and if our stuff is even worth their weight when doing such a thing as moving. It is truly an ideal moment indeed to start selling some stuff. Cause what is the point in moving something that never moves otherwise in your day. Thank you so much for sharing and watching my video!

Such a great video! Definitely something that's not talked about enough in the collecting community. Over the years I would find myself picking up books just because of all the big haul videos I would see or have to make myself. That I felt like reading became more of a chore. Which you are right it shouldn't feel that way. So now I have become more of a minimalist. Which I have to say I enjoy more!

Thanks for all these great and thoughtful videos about collecting. I've been collecting comics for about ten years, and I've sold off large portions of books two or three times. At first, I felt like I was losing more than I gained, but as time has gone on I've found myself having the same thoughts you do: the more new stuff I try to keep up with, the less I have time to revisit older stories I love. Thanks again for giving me something to think about! Very interested to hear your thoughts on digital comics.

Thank you for watching my videos. I try my best not to waste anybodys time. Hey, same time collectors I started little over nine years ago! i´ve always sold of books during my collecting, but that was mostly in the service of upgrading to bigger books. So not really currating what to keep and give up, more so than, add bigger and bigger books. That has obviously changed now. Thank you, I´m glad that my open thought process can help people start asking questions to themself they´ve maybe never thought of before.

I collect Games, TV Shows, Books and Movies and had some ideas: - I try to only collect stuff that I know I will re read/play/watch over and over again - I buy 90% second hand - Due to this I can just sell the stuff once I realise it takes up too much space/is not used/liked by me anymore for often the same price I bought it for - I oversell my collection meaning I sell stuff which I am on the fence about on keeping just to see if I really need it. Most of the time I don't even think about the sold item anymore at all and sometimes forget I ever owned it

Very nice video, just what I was looking for. It sure isn't easy finding the right balance between collecting and trying to live more minimal. I've collected Nendoroids (150+) and started selling them so I could make the switch to manga. Finding minimalism has made it easier to see which ones I really like and others that deserve a new home. I also have only one closet divided in 4x4 squares which is my personal limit for collecting stuff. Full is full and if I want something new I'll have to sell something first.

I think I understand lately trying to focus on reading a run all the way through. I also indulge in Funkos and when I started collected full sets I've calmed down and go after specific characters based on memory or if I'm meeting a creator or artist. Working on finding that balance still in the comics world.

It's all different for everyone. We each crave and need different amount of anything to be "satisfied". But if its one thing I've learned. It is that everything that you have less of truly get worth more, if not in financial value, then so, in sentimental value.

Just discovered your channel, really enjoy the few videos I’ve watched so far! I had a big collection of 3000 books at one point that I had to completely give up because of moving to a different country. Now I have less books (and much less space) and I unhaul and sell the ones I don’t want to reread or keep. (I speak Swedish but I keep it in English so everybody can read the comment :) also, my Swedish isn’t so good anymore I guess)

Hi Jeanny. I'm glad you are enjoying my content so far. It's rare to hear someone declutter or sell of such an amount of books. Do you feel that the experience of having to give up a major amount of possessions and be intentful with what you put into your smaller living space, has helped you personally with defining what really matters?

@@Joakimcomicscenter On the one hand it’s freeing to let go of so many things. But on the other hand: I still think about some of the books, especially the ones I read during my childhood/teenage years and that are out of print now. I do have to cut back on buying physical copies of all the books I read. But because I read a lot (and I’m very picky, which leads me to read lots of great books) my collection always grows quickly and I wish to have a little bit more space. Also because I like to present my books in a nice way on the shelves.
