Brush, McCoy and Brush-McCoy Pottery - a very brief synopsis: In 1899, JW McCoy formed the JW McCoy Pottery Company. In Dec 1906, George Brush formed the Brush Pottery Company, starting operation in 1907. Brush burned to the ground in 1908. In 1909, George Brush joined the JW McCoy Pottery company, buying 10 shares. In 1911, he bought another building and re-opened Brush Pottery. Also in 1911, the two companies merged to form Brush-McCoy Pottery. In 1914, JW McCoy died. The McCoy family sold their interests in 1918, and the company was renamed Brush Pottery in 1925. Meanwhile, Nelson McCoy (son of JW) opened his own company, Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware, in 1910. That is the company that became the McCoy you know today. McCoy and Brush were competitors for their entire existence.

My family has been collecting McCoy pottery and others. My grandfather had a furniture store in Ohio in the 1950’s. The pottery salesman would come and show the latest line. Florist used the planters for their flower arrangements. When my grandparent’s house was gone thru, mom got the pottery. Then when Martha Stewart highlighted McCoy on her show my mom & brother started collecting more. They live in Ohio so had more opportunities to find it. Even here in Oregon I’ve been able to build my collection. I like the wall pockets and any of the blue pieces. Thanks for the video!

My Mother and her 4 very close cousins (who were like sisters) began collecting McCoy pottery back in the mid 70s. One of the cousins was doing flower gardening in the backyard of her family's old homeplace and amazingly dug up a medium sized green McCoy planter in great but dirty condition. All 5 of these women enjoyed antiques, especially Victorian style and they had books on antiques. The cousin finding the planter discovered that even back then McCoy pottery was sought after by collectors. These 5 women jumped on the McCoy bandwagon even joking how they should all start digging around in their gardens and yards for McCoy! To this day I still own my Mother's pieces and collect my own. I also greatly enjoy adding to my Victorian furniture. Art Deco styles mix very well with Victorian and my appreciation for that grows as well. It's a pleasure discovering your channel. I'm subscribing and telling my good close friends about your channel...we all enjoy thrifting and antiquing. Thank you for your time and work in creating a superb channel. I look forward to discovering more of your channel as time allows.

I really enjoyed the history, as I do on all your collectible videos. I have my grandmother's McCoy planters and as all my hand-me-downs, they're valuable to me. I have a lot of old "country" collectibles, from butter churns to farm related items. I know that's a broad subject but I'd love to see videos. Sock darners, soap "cages" for making dish water from soap slivers, rolling pins, saws, mule drawn plows.

On our trip to Portland, we stopped for gas in an off-the-freeway gas station, and there were 3 antique shops in the blink-&-you'll-miss-it town. In the first, I bought a lot! It was such a large place, that we never got to the 3rd shop (my Sister was in a hurry to get to Portland to see her daughter.) I bought a McCoy-style vase for $45 because the colors would go well in my kitchen, and I could put cut flowers in it that my neighbor drops off. Wouldn't ya know, I saw the exact same vase in a collectables store in Portland for half that?

Unlike other art pottery McCoy hasn't seen as large of a price decline in the past decade and a half as other art pottery companies like Roseville or Weller. Prices and competition has always been strong for many of its pastel colored vases and flower pots. I suggest checking out McCoy Hyacinth vases, their water lily vases with the lizard handles, and some of the assortment of McCoy stretch animals out there. Unfortunately with McCoy you have to worry about the many reproductions out there. See reference books and some informative websites online. There is also some Facebook groups out there on McCoy with an avid community and some real experts.

I have a vase that is over 120 yrs. old. Its passed down through the family. Its a light blue glaze with small pink flowers on it. It has no markings on it. Apparently at some time it was broken, but glued back together perfectly. I almost could not tell it was broken at first. Would the fact that it was broken and glued back together make it unvaluable?

There is a local auction house which will be selling a lot of glassware . several hundred pieces of Roseville pottery , a lot of Granetware and stone jugs . What caught my attention was a Northwood pitcher and 5 goblet set the pattern is Peacock on fountain in cobalt . The prices on e-bay are all over the place one current auction is at $35.00 and two more are listed at $355.00 and $795.00 . Have you sold these in the past and what would you advise . The Hatfield pottery was more collectable but it was all destroyed by the McCoys during the long-standing family feud between them.

Nice information except McCoy did not close in 1982, they closed in 1990. Brush Pottery closed in 1982, not McCoy.

Glad you enjoyed the video. I have no idea why most men have beards, me personally, I just enjoy the look and since I can't grow it on my head I grow it on my face

Please check out your dictionary and read the meaning of the word unique! It stand alone, never to be used with an adjective or anything else. Unique is unique. That's the only word you need to use when an item is one of a kind or maybe the only one in the world. People are unique, like you. Even if you were an identical twin there would still be a slight difference or two between you. Haven't meant to preach but my fifth grade English teacher would be proud of me. When you are in the public eye please be careful how you use this crazy English language
