4 years later, turns out Mahomes is no fluke. Turns out all of that luck isn't luck but it IS his lane. And it turns out that this craft he's been working so outrageously hard to perfect for his entire life is exactly what he actually does. He doesn't take his position, his abilities, his life for granted. He works extremely hard for everything he's done. And he's earned the respect that so many still choose not to give and that's okay, it comes with the territory. But I truly feel bad for those folks that choose to hate and belittle what he does rather than enjoy it. It's a real greatness that we're not likely to see ever again in this sport. Because it's almost as if the stars had to align for this team to be. Everything we've been building here in KC since 2013 has been amazing to witness and it still shocks me that I've been lucky enough to grow up a Chiefs fan and be around for it.

Wait wait wait.....Mahomes never got crushed? Embarrassed? Shut out?....Has Cowherd never seen him play at Texas Tech? That's mostly what happened to Patrick despite how hard he tried to elevate his team! He does not take winning for granted! He got all of that out of the way in college, and he came into the NFL draft with people doubting his ability to be an NFL quarterback, he came in with a pretty big chip on his shoulder I'd say! even now, people were still giving ALL the credit to his star players and none to him despite his stellar play. Mahomes doesn't need all those things Cowherd is talking about, from his intelligence to his demeanor to his coach-ability....Mahomes will not crash because he is wise beyond his years and knows what it takes to be great. He is a gym-rat, he constantly studies film.....he loves this game of football and he's had to put thousands of hours of work and practice and grind to be where he is at now! And even then this kid knows he has to keep working and grinding to keep getting better....he has "it"

Yeah any game they ever lost at Tech though was never his fault. He was the reason the won or made it close though. That's how I knew this kid was going to be special...They finished 8-5, 7-6, 5-7 under him, but without Mahomes they likely would have had 2 and 3 win seasons lol. If you took Mahomes and put him on the 2008 Texas Tech team with Crabtree and all that talent and a decent defense....man they would have won the ship

It's probably hard to believe if you watched the game, but last night the defense was better. We actually had a pass rush. The other phases were pretty bad, linebackers missed too many tackles, secondary can't cover anybody, can't stop the run, but I saw improvement in the pass rush. We made enough stops when needed to win.

@Matt: He is more agile than Steve and he is more creative arm talent than Stafford. However, he is nowhere near as fast or instinctive as Russell. But he can escape a little bit, fend off defenders and is dangerous throwing left or right. Also, he is not quite as accurate as Rodgers is right now, but he has a stronger arm and can make a lot of the same throws.

It seems like the NFL has decided there won't be any "good hit" if somebody doesn't have the ball, unless you're blocking for the ball carrier. This is probably a good idea, and the era of video games (as one example) is a reason that such reflexes can be expected.

My point is he just gotta put time in before getting that comparison

What do you mean he has a bad defense in high school, college, and now in the NFL so it makes me made when people say he never plays from behind. The Chiefs will win the AFC West, no Mahomes got to sit because he has a franchise that doesn't make stupid decisions, the Kansas city chiefs plan ahead for 3 to 4 years, and if you don't give him credit because he has all those weapons then you shouldn't give DeShaun Watson because he has a defense and he has all those weapons too. This Patrick Mahomes II first year as a starter ok this isn't some other scrub that another NFL team gets off the street I guarantee you Chad Henne couldnt the same things Mahomes has been doing.

Colin, the reason guys like Clay Matthews are upset is because they are somehow expected to alter physics and defy Newton's Law in mid tackle. Obviously nobody wants to see a QB spun around and body slammed into the turf, but when you make a textbook tackle to perfection (shoulder to mid section, wrap up, keep legs moving) and get flagged for it? Because you couldn't adjust your weight/momentum mid air? COME. ON. Defense is already hard enough to play these days, give me a break.
