@@ExtraVictory You're getting into semantics and arbitrary definitions. First off, broadcasting isn't a requisite. The so-called media is often a strawman that would refer to radio, TV, newspapers and magazines. Ca 1993-1998, i.e. during the events of episodes 7 and 8, and there was relatively little national sports broadcast programming, so if people said "media," likely as not, they meant something in print. Second, number of listeners or readers is only brought up after further consideration. To use Last Dance examples, it flashed a few articles and columns suggesting a connection between James Jordan's murder and his son's gambling debt. I didn't recognize the names in the bylines, and I don't know which publications these were from. I know even less how many people read them at the time, just as I don't know how many people still watch Skip Bayless or Dan Patrick, but I know they have shows on a network. My point was, in 1995 there was a meaningful distinction between having a radio spot on 1-on-1 Sports and yammering about some topic at the bus stop, but not no2. I don't know how many people listened to either person 25 years ago, butnonenhad the potential to reach tens of millions of listeners and one didn't. I don't know how many subscribers you have now or will have next year, but even if I don't happen to know who you are, you can theoretically reach as many viewers as a multimillion $ company. When people want to claim they're being picked on by "the media," they'll point to articles, TV spots, podcasts, radio, no matter how obscure.

I watched the NBA for about 10 years after MJ retired from the Bulls, but I saw the league get less physical and the refs became more active to the point where players flop like soccer players. And then I saw top players join forces instead of create real rivalries. Now players play little defense and jack 3s and I stopped watching the NBA. I hope it goes out of business.

No, MJ would've never made it on a big league roster. I live in Birmingham where Michael played with the Barons, and followed his baseball career with close attention. There's a few iPhone videos of Terry Francona giving a speech recorded at a private banquet in Cleveland that can still be found here on KZread where he was more brutally honest about MJ's baseball abilities. Francona said his swing was much too long and drawn out to ever hit major league pitching; he was somewhat clumsy on the base path because he was so slow starting; and his arm wasn't strong or accurate enough for a MLB roster to use as a starting centerfielder either. What'll surprise you most when talking to those who played baseball with him is how much more carefree he was, and how much more fun he seemed to be having. He was still the iron willed competitor who had to win at everything he did, but nothing like he was in his basketball lifetime. He knew he wasn't the best player on the team so he was free to just be one of the guys in the clubhouse in baseball in ways he never could in the NBA. Michael actually bought new team buses for the Barons players to travel in which he paid for out of his own pocket. He also bought pool tables and ping pong tables for the clubhouse also. He was never a diva or obnoxious celebrity while playing baseball either. Seriously, he seemed to be a completely different person who actually enjoyed being a Double A baseball player more than he did being the best basketball player in the world.

Pippen was wrong for sitting out the last 1.8 seconds of Game 3. But all of his teammates loved Pip since he set them up for easy shots, covered for them on defense, patted them on the back after MJ lashed out at them, taught them where to be in the triangle and stood up for them when Phil called them out watching film. Pippen wasn't the ideal #1 option but the perfect #2 who can make his teammates better on the court without dominating the ball and taking alot of shots. Pippen made it sustainable for his teammates to play alongside MJ.

There's a reason Doug Gottlieb was one of the 1st to get dumped by ESPN. If you HONESTLY go back to that series, Scottie Pippen was dominant & if Hue Hollins doesn't call a phantom foul at the very end of game 5 which allowed Hubert Davis to make 3 free throws to give the Knicks the win, the Bulls go home, win game 6 & the series 4-2. I was angry at Scottie for sitting for the last shot but there were more games to be played. He also helped us win 3 more title's so get out of here with that selective memory BS!

If MJ is as competitive as everyone wants us to believe he is, and if he was an excessive gambler to say the least like it seems he was, there’s no way on Earth he never, ever, once bet on a basketball game.

Nobody. Literally nobody theorizes that. No conspiracy theorist. Nobody. What we are talking about? I lived thru that time and followed it all avidly, and this theory just wasn't a thing. This is my favourite mainline sports guy (Cowherd) but not sure what this rant was about.

Colin I hear what you're saying ,but you need to fact check yourself before you go on these rants. When referring to the 1984 Draft ,there was no internet money, and the game hadn't even started to go global when Stern took over the NBA. Boston, LA, New York were the only popular teams at the time.Jordan is quoted as saying New York is the mecca of basketball, especially back then in the 80's . Very obvious bent corner on the envelope.

Gottlieb is annoying. He's one of these guys that if something's not quite negative enough, it's not real. Good for Colin for standing up to this borderline troll. Yeah, let's whine about them not talking to everyone that was just looking for any dirt on MJ throughout his career... How would that be any more credible than something that's supposedly too positive all the time? It wouldn't. Journalism is almost always slanted in some way, no matter how miniscule. I guess he better question himself too, because he for sure has opinions. The take that this isn't a documentary is basically a butthurt take from journalists that can't stand seeing something that doesn't actually throw dirt on someone. I guess trolls stick together.

What gets me about Jordan being the best of all time. First Magic went to 8 NBA finals in his first 10 years winning 5 including his first year. Bird went to 5 NBA finals in 10 years winning 3 including his 2nd year with the celtics. Magic went to four in a row as did Bird go to 4 in a row. Several times they beat each other. Jorden took till his 7th year to get to the NBA finals. Won three in a row. Then basically took off two seasons. Before returning to win 3 in a row. Then retired for a second time. Bird and Magic didnt take off a couple of years cause they were stressed. They played no matter what. So Bird and Magic are 2 "Goats" at least that I would put before Jordan. During the times I was old enough to remember all of NBA from 80s on......

The weird thing to do is come back like that with 17 games left while not being in b-ball shape. He could have just waited and got in shape and then did this thing. But the conspiracy still doesn’t make sense to me...was he doing anything illegal? Also, according to his trainer & others, he told them in ‘92 that he was going to play baseball. His trainer had a basketball workout for the upcoming season and a baseball workout ready when that time came the next year.

How does Doug say when lebron leaves a team it falls apart when mj left the league fell apart lmao makes zero sense for a comparison. but the reason league fell off for ratings is because there was No one similar to MJ, it's also why kobe had more fans in 2001 than shaq even though shaq was the more dominant player leading the way.ppl want high flying acrobatic jaw dropping highlights. The 90's didn't have those guys the top 90's SG's and SF's in the league were. Reggie, Clyde, Mitch richmond, john starks, joe dumars. Top SF's chris mullin, grant hill, glen rice, pippen, almost none of them are high flyers only basketball purist can enjoy them. today's nba (Not lebron)Aaron Gordon, Kawhi, Derrick jones, jimmy butler, paul george, Jayson tatum, Devin booker, you can pick almost any team and be entertained by their athleticism. I love MJ i have no doubt he would be one of the best if not the best in today's game, but his competition in his position was so weak. he was guarded by 6ft tall PG's most ECF's and Finals. These are just the facts of it. respect though he was great enough to eat up those mismatches among the fact teams couldn't play zone so he got to take them 1 on 1 all game if he wanted.

Interestingly, I barely watched the games in today’s NBA with all the high flyers because it’s all about shooting 3’s and dunks/layups. There’s practically no defense anymore. Guys don’t even know how to post up. They are not that entertaining to me and the ratings show that. The sad part is this documentary is more exciting than the games played in today’s league. In the playoffs, MJ has been guarded by 6’8 Rodman, 6’8 Smith, 6’7 Drexler, 6’7 Penny, 6’7 Miller, 6’6 Thunder Dan, 6’6 Anderson, etc. It didn’t really matter who was on him. Teams like the 90’s Knicks used to play zone and get away with it. Ironically, MJ hit the game winning shot in college against a zone...go figure.

John Solly583 I don’t know the answer but before MJ, had anybody retired and then tried to come back? If not, that could be the answer...it’s new territory and the Commish would have to sign off on that. Kind of like when MJ wanted to go back to #23. They wouldn’t let him at first but he then had to pay to “un-retire” that number again.

5:30 1. He was in an all male workforce. Rest assured, if he had female teammates and treaded them that aggressively/harshly he'd be out of the league or fined so heavily he'd change his behavior. Toxic masculinity is a term invented by feminist in service to women. Without women around the term has no function. 2. Social media wasn't big yet, so resisting it was easier.

Although I agree with Colin for the most part about conspiracies, I think there was a favourable chance the Knicks-Ewing vote was rigged. Remember, back in 1984, there was no internet, no global takeover in basketball by the NBA, and so the NBA was still trying to grow it's brand. And my team were the Knicks back then.. and I could only follow the NBA with a once a week TV show called NBA Action in Australia lol
