    Great video. I use a square pizza stone inside mine in the bottom as a heat sink and I made a carbon felt insulating blanket for it. Works great.

    PRO TIP: use cotter pins to hold that rack in place. 👍🏽 Use a square pizza stone on the bottom to maintain and even out the heat.

    I saw that an unglazed tile in the bottom and a welding blanket wrapped around the sides and top(not front) really really helps!

    welding blanket doesn't really help much for baking but it does help prevent people from getting burned.

    Wow, that oven by Coleman has been around for decades 🥰. As a kid I camped/fished with my parents. On one trip the family nextdoor to our campsite had one of those. The lady made homemade pizzas in it. I remember that like it was yesterday. I was so impressed and would have gladly traded my fried fish dinner for some of that pizza 😂.

    I been using them for 45 yrs.. the first one I still have but the grate rusted in storage on a edge of the rack and a few rungs rusted through. Have not been able to find a replacement. Bought second 5 yrs ago because I heard colman was going to stop making them. I spent weeks out camping with this oven. I cook anything I cook at home in it.makes great bread, turnovers, pizza, cornbread. Fish, meatloaf. I made a lasagna several times in it.. you can use medium coals under it. No fire though. A campfire is to hot for the metal of the oven. Don't place directly on coals. It can work the bottom metal.

    Excellent review and directions for use. We trout fished and dry camped all over Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado with the original version of this and it was great! This one is even better. And it’s works as great today as it was all those years ago. Brings back such happy memories. ( you are right-there’s a bit of a learning curve at first, but then, very useful! ) 😎👍

    I've had one of those since the late 60's and it still works great ;-)) I've got it in one of my INCH (I'm Never Coming Home) bags along with a Coleman stove and other cooking items ;-)) Try latching the bottom the same way you did the top, on it's side ;-)) Thanks for sharing this, brings back old memories of cooking in mine :-))

    Please consider that most candles give off a lot of smoke and soot. If a large number of candles are being used for decorations (holiday or party) they can/do set off smoke detectors. We learned that the hard way. If I had any other heat alternative I wouldn't want to eat food with candle soot on it.

    Wouldn't use this with a butane stove - have heard that if the area over the canister gets too hot the canister can explode.

  • @THerd-um5tl

    @THerd-um5tl

    2 жыл бұрын

    It most certainly can explode. Some of these stoves have a hose that allows connection of a 1lb cylinder that sits a foot away from the stove, and that appears safe to me, but using the internal canister is asking for trouble. The instructions accompanying these small gas stoves all warn against using a large pan that covers the canister, because it concentrates heat on the fuel. If the pressure gets too high, the top of these cylinders (which are just crimped on like a can of vegetables) can blow off and the fuel will ignite, causing serious injury or death. Also, make certain you are only using propane canisters with a built in vent that is supposed to release pressure before an explosion. It will be clearly marked as such.

    @@Iridium242 I have used mine several times on my coleman single burner propane stove while using the two burner for making breakfast. I use a pizza stone to even out the heat. I have used it to make biscuits and cupcakes without a problem. Actually not a true statement as one time the wind was blowing and I didn't have a shield so the biscuits took for ever. I have since also made a welding blanket cover to go over the oven that helps greatly to hold in the heat and saves fuel. How to make the blanket is on youtube but I don't remember the site.
