Best start to finish set up. Just need to show it takes a bit to burn off residual fuel once you turn fuel off completely. Thank you so much, especially for showing battery replacement. Honestly, yours was the best review I have seen.

Very cool , I have the propane version and although it is a great lamp , I don't like how tall it sits on the bottle .

After you burned the mantel be very careful handling the lanturn, the mantel is very fragile if you are going out camping have 2 or 3 spare mantels in the case.

Nice video mate. I've had one of these for the last 6 years, and absolutely love it. They run around 7 hours on high and 14 hours on low. I'm in Australia, where our laws no longer allow the importation of genuine Coleman Fuel, but after some research, I now run mine on Shellite (naphtha, white spirit, etc) which is basically identical. Great product and everyone is amazed when they come camping and see the flames out the top cap as the generator tube warms up, and then at how bright it is.

Mark Mulvaney out past Lightning Ridge, mate. Small world isn't it? Since I watched your video, I've been looking to get a vintage Coleman lantern to go with my NorthStar haha

Hi Jarrad. Is the Shellite readily available in Australia. You can also use unleaded petrol in your lantern - that's why it's dual fuel. I haven't used the unleaded petrol though, as we live in Iowa, in the US and we can get the Coleman fuel everywhere, for about $4 / gallon. I also have a vintage Coleman and a propane Coleman as well. The vintage lanterns are no-where near as bright... but they're fun to play with. haha.

Mark Mulvaney yeah, Shellite is available in a lot of places. It's about $7USD a quart. I was told to avoid unleaded as it can leave residue and build up. I didn't know the vintage models were duller? Have you ever tried the old thorium doped mantles in your vintage lanterns?

Remove the electric ignition after you fired the Northstar up. The heat of the lamp destroys your plastic unit on the long term. Remove it when the lamp burns properly. I use matches anyway, as mine pulverised after 2 years of use.

no lantern should start with a bang like that! you really need to read the instructions and follow them carefully! Folks don't do what this guy did. he turned the gas on too high thats why the lantern Flared up. and why it started with a Bang... also after the lantern started he kept playing with the valve. he should have left it on LOW for a few mins to let the lantern warm up. then gradually turn it up so the lantern wouldn't keep flaring up. Lighting your coleman or any other type of Pressure lantern this way could cause injury!

This is absolutely correct, flareups are due to two things. Air and not enough heat. Always let the North Star warm up….

Dual fuel as in a removable fount that allows for a 1# propane tank - or just works with unleaded as well as coleman white gas?

Coleman made a mistake on an order I made and gave me a 50% coupon on my next order. I collect lanterns but they won't let me use the coupon on the Seasons Lantern. I'm thinking about getting one of these. How does the build quality seem to you? Looks a little too plastic for my taste.

its a hardy lantern and near as good as the oldies the only plastic is the pump valve top. the gas cap is the same as every coleman but it has a plastic grab sleeve on top. its bright as shit too

The thing i don't like about what iv seen with this lantern is you cant manually light it without tearing it apart. On the 220 for instance you can take a long lighter and preheat the generator before you light it to stop it from flaming up on ignition. And i think its a bit overpriced

  • @eagleman8362

You can light it manually by lighting it from the top, iv'e had one for 4 years and it's a great piece of kit for night fishing.

you need to listen for the fuel spitting then TURN OFF VALVE, then light and slowly add a tiny bit of fuel knob till the generator gets preheated(about a minute. no flame ups and as quick as turning on a light switch.

Those mantles should last for the life of the lantern, provided the lantern does not get bumped or knocked over.
