Cole Chaney - The Flood (Live on Red Barn Radio)

Музыка

A singer-songwriter from near Cattletsburg, Kentucky, he now works full-time as a musician. His musical passion started as a young teen, when his dad bought him his first guitar in 8th grade. It was really his stepdad, Scott Sword, who encouraged his learning, and Cole credits him with being the real reason he started playing.

The Flood and Coal Shooter are the most heartbreaking songs I've heard. This is real country music! Storytelling with emotion. Not rap beats about drinking. Cole reminds me of Kenny Rogers and George jones.

I inherited this plot of land when mama’s daddy died This little surveyed piece of earth is where I’ve spent my life Rainwater is to cornfields like whiskey is to men Just have enough to keep you standing, too much will do you in These rainclouds settled in, one early winter night The grey of winter dawn is choking out all the sunlight The little sandy river, she’s drowning in her tears With her she’ll take my good dirt and a hundred head of steer The rain keeps on a falling as I cry out to my lord Won’t you spare this land I broke my heart and backbone for Well he don’t give me an answer as the rain keeps coming down I’ll fight this flood to the bitter end or he washes me out For forty days and fouty nights They say noah built the ark and that he rode upon the tide Lord I’ve got no boat and I’ve run out of time Nothing left to live for and the last of my kind The rain keeps on a falling as I cry out to my lord Won’t you spare this land I broke my heart and backbone for Well he don’t give me an answer as the rain keeps coming down I’ll fight this flood to the bitter end or he washes me out Well that muddy waters rising I can barely see the fence Lord it rolls my way like a slow train loaded down with death Son you can have your share if she leaves anything behind Don’t bother draggin the river boy Cause stones all that you’ll find The rain keeps on a falling as I cry out to my lord Won’t you spare this land I broke my heart and backbone for Well he don’t give me an answer as the rain keeps coming down I’ll fight this flood to the bitter end or he washes me out

Childers was raw and so good in the beginning. I saw two or three shows where he had songs that he had just came up with which ended up going on the country squire album. Those songs were amazing and raw before the overproduced country squire album in my opinion. Then I saw a show after country squire came out and those songs sounded nothing like before. Less is more sometimes.
