This was the first song I chose to play at my brothers funeral. He was the one who introduced me to Coldplay and who I would think of when I listened to this album. Thank you for such a beautiful song in this beautiful, but terrifying and rough world. Love You All, everyone.

I so agree with your comment. It puts me in this amazing headspace "portal" where I relive cozy rainy days, sunshine days with family and close friends, bookstore wanderings, so many simple, pure moments. I'm a huge fan of Coldplay and have been for years. Their melodies often transport me somewhere simple and beautiful. And Chris Martin's very distinct voice just enhances the ride. And yes, in this song, the guitar chords are indeed haunting. Makes it sound so ethereal which is why I tend to put this tune on repeat.

About 8 years ago I was travelling around Sri Lanka and had been going through a bit of a period of depression and loneliness. I was travelling by bus and had fallen asleep with my MP3 player on shuffle. I woke up, looked out of the window only to find we were at the top of a mountain with the most amazing views I've ever seen and at that exact moment the chorus of don't panic is playing in my ears. Honestly the most beautiful experience of my life, so much so that i, a then 39 year old man, began crying! Still can't listen to this song without visualising that view
After 6 years I have just rediscovered this song for the first time. I was about 7 and at that time I was getting into music, and me and my friends created a band. I wanted to make a song that we could play, an this melody just popped into my head. I knew it was already a song, but just didn’t know which, and up to now, I still remember walking up to my best friend and asking him by humming the melody to him. He immediately told me it was Dont panic. I know it doesn’t seem like much but now when I just randomly clicked on this video all these memories just came flooding over me. Now me and my friend live completely different live completely different lives, barely in touch and on completely different continents. So much time has passed, and it just gives me this feeling, not really sadness but like acceptance that time has passed and I’ll never get it back, but am forever grateful for it. Nostalgia is a weird thing. I’m only 14 but I already feel so old. Please live life to the fullest to those of you who see this. Life is short, so enjoy it to the max. Love from New York 🤍

I love the lyricism in this song a lot, especially in the hook. "we live in a beautiful world", followed by an immediate "yeah we do, yeah we do", to maybe suggest ones first response would be "no we don't". He kind of reads your mind in a sense

I love this song...but the feeling I get is more like, the chorus is sarcasm...or bereft hope. Like, keep telling yourself that it's a beautiful world, because you know it isn't true. It's the melancholy of the song that attracts me.

vv Mako vv Your analysis seems a little simplistic. "Bones sinking like stones, all that we've fought for. Homes, places we've grown...all of us are done for." Seems like something a little deeper than what you've stated. Seems kind of fatalistic. Couple that with the downbeat nature of the melody and chorus and I definitely question what you're talking about. Of course, it's subjective so it's very open to interpretation. If that's what it means to you, then that's what it is for you.
@vvmakovv2689
9 жыл бұрын
Andy Appleton Simplistic? no... and by the way the song has a down beat nature to it because its trying to get across the fact that we are only hurting ourselves by being so uneducated on what is out there, and how we are destroying our planet. To be honest, if I put all the things that the song is trying to say and get across, then I would be writing for a very long time... Also, just to let you know, less than 2% worlds population even know even out there in the universe

THAT WEEPING GUITAR!!!! Touches my soul!
Still giving me chills, Bucklands guitar chords...
They played this last night in Buenos Aires (2022)... brilliant!
One of the best albums ever made.... Can’t count how many times this album has given me emotional/mental relief or gratitude over the years. It was my “sound machine”

20 years ago today, Parachutes was released. Happy Birthday to the album that kicked off the greatest band in history.
The best album they ever done, raw, talent, then mainstrea.
12 years later...still bursting into tears for this song...❤authentic
Parachutes siempre sera el mejor disco de Coldplay! Don't Panic, Spies, Trouble, We Never Change, todas!

still love this song today ☺
This song is high among my favorite tracks of all-time. Gentle, intimate, mysterious. I understand Coldplay don't make this kind of music anymore, but I wish there's a new band that makes music this intimate, gentle, and mysterious. I'm craving for this kind of music!
