This is the best documentary series on the Cold War. It’s absolutely spectacular. I’ve seen them all several times yet it’s still very interesting. Thanks to the individuals making it possible. Also RIP to the lives lost during that horrible conflict. The Afghan people ha e incredible loyalty and courage for their fellow natives and country. A spirit that’s been proven many times that they’re UNBREAKABLE.

I say that ALL THE TIME. Also, if you look as how we fought the Afghan war, it is VERY similar to how the USSR did. It's like they didn't learn from us in Vietnam and we didn't learn from them in Afghanistan.

Yup! At 20:01 "Against their wishes, the Soviets were soon sucked into combat. They started with textbook sweep offensives..." 20:22 "I would say 99% of all the battles that we fought in Afghanistan were won by the Soviet side. But the problem is that the next morning, we had the same old situation, as if there was no battle. Mujaheddin were again in that village where we thought we destroyed them just the other day. So it was an absolutely useless war." *JUST* like in Vietnam. *SMDH*

From a militaristic perspective, it's interesting to see the Soviets fall into the same caveat that the Americans experienced in Vietnam. The traditional front line fell into detachment sweeps and then into exploitation of heavy air superiority. Attacking agricultural nations required a fundamental change in engagement procedures, away from traditional standing army methods. The benefit of hindsight and interviews certainly makes this series good.

Those who are saying that Afghanistan should have been bombed off the face of the Earth clearly have no understanding of the strategic importance of Afghanistan and why it's necessary to keep some kind of infrastructure there. Yes it's possible that you kill off your enemies but that serves little purpose in terms of securing a suitable outcome after the war. Given the strategic location of Afghanistan and the West's necessity to have oil pipelines running through that country etc it seems self defeating to reduce Afghanistan to rubble or to nuke the country. There's a lot more going on than just the so called war on terror and people should open their eyes to this.

It was, however, before 9/11-the same year Al-Qaeda carried out the East African embassy bombings, in fact. So you're right-while Bin Laden was already in the news as an enemy of the U.S., he wasn't high-profile enough yet to be an obsession of U.S. foreign policy-or of coverage in documentaries like this one.

They were ruthless and sadly, its probably the only way an invading nation could conquer afghanistan. I don't know who the US government thought they were fooling, but the way they have waged the current war will never result in victory. That would of been such a powerful statement killing him so fast. 3- We fought two wars at the same time which take away from Afghanistan. We were doing a good job and the first time in that countries history they wanted outside help because they were sick of 20 years of war. But we didn't want to do what the Soviets did so we try to do a light foot print at first then by the time we realize we needed a bigger foot print it was to late and we still didn't put down the man power you needed. Afghans have historically been used as pawns in a grand chess game. No wonder that ideology has an axe to grind with a political world that gave them prominence and wealth without earning it. Even a boy raised by wolves knows when he is being taken advantage of. Place a FIM-92 Stinger in that boy's hands, teach him the basics of how to operate the device and convince him that God is angry at the present state of the world... He will rise and begin to question and assault his own Being. I do not advocate for this course of action, it's just an observation of the present and truly challenging human condition. "μὴ δῶτε τὸ ἅγιον τοῖς κυσὶν μηδὲ βάλητε τοὺς μαργαρίτας ὑμῶν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν χοίρων μήποτε καταπατήσουσιν αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς ποσὶν αὐτῶν καὶ στραφέντες ῥήξωσιν ὑμᾶς".

Important note: Capitalists hate land reform. The ideal capitalist form of society is, imagine the large plantations in the American South before the US civil war. A few rich, and the rest slaves.

29:30 Having previously criticised the wartime conduct of their ideological opponents, I think it’s important to note the behaviour outlined in this documentary is just the tip of an enormous iceberg of evil committed by those representing this left-wing socio-political ideology based on violent revolution and devoid of any spiritual compass. As with the criticisms I made of their opponents this behaviour has nothing to do with any nationality or ethnicity because you will find wonderful people in any nationality and ethnicity. It’s just purely a result of an ideology trying to achieve equality but having no idea how to do that in a manner that is conducive to the lasting welfare of all. The inhabitants of this land targeted for revolution *do* have the capacity to achieve that outcome given the fact that *other* lands guided by their Righteous Spiritual Principles have uplifted themselves to a state where all their harmless beings live safe, free, and happy, regardless of any superficial differences in social class, ethnicity, or religion. Others should not judge and condemn these lands for their undeveloped state and instead view the potential for heavenly status as being ever present so long as the beings within this land - Believe In The Supreme Creative Beyond Themselves That Can Help Get Them Through Difficult Times And Make The World A Better Place - As Can Their All Encompassing Spiritual Principles Righteously Interpreted By Learned Spiritual Teachers. Indeed, there have been periods of history in the not too distant past when lands that are guided by these Principles were opened to various forms of knowledge and the scientific advancements made are yielding benefits in various fields even to this day, including important fields such as astronomy and algebra. With the development of the modern numerical system being just one example of such advancement benefiting all. Much of those lands were previously destitute but the revelation of their Sacred Text removed entrenched evils and much inequality, in exchange providing individuals and their society at large with guidance and structure. Then with the support of forward-thinking leaders who promoted freedom of knowledge and mind their All Encompassing Principles effectively *opened their minds* to new possibilities that were previously inhibited. So I’m sure the same can happen again, for another Golden Age to begin, under good leadership.

LOL. Sorry but having an uncle die in Vietnam, I felt then as I do now: How did it feel Russia/USSR?? Honestly they only lost 15,000. We lost 58,000. They didn’t pay enough. And before anyone says anything about my views, I thought we waged an illegal war in Vietnam. We violated the 1954 peace accords by having S. Vietnam boycott the 1956 countrywide elections by holding their own elections because we knew Ho Chi Minh would win. Seeing my mother crying all the time over her brother’s death in 1971 and still crying to this day makes all legal arguments go out the window.

People who look upon Russian atrocities in Kherson and throughout the Ukraine might better understand the mindset of a Russian soldier after listening to a few of these interviews. One thing I have noticed is the Russian Army lacks a genuinely professional military bearing and self-discipline among their fighting forces. They are misled by their command staff and manipulated, which leads Russian soldiers to believe every armed forces worldwide are involved in a common practice of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, so they continue to commit the same atrocities everywhere they are sent.

Heathen countries like The U.S. and The U.S.S.R. can't understand a culture which (right or wrong) has held deep religious convictions for thousands of years. To prove it Brzezinski told the Mujaheddin that they would prevail "... because God is on your side." Whose god was he talking about?
