I used to listen to this song and cry because I wanted to get sober and kept relapsing, my life was so out of control. I’ve now been sober since 12/12/2010. 💜 Recovery is possible 💜✨

it took me so long to ever even admit that i had a problem, id make excuses to try and justify myself. i would blame any situation or another person before id admit that it was my own doing. my life too was broken by it. so much time , so many relationships ruined by excessive drinking. I too finally had my fill, reading your comment brings me hope. we can only change of we want to and acknowledge our mistakes. I am so glad you are doing better now

This is an extremely accurate depiction of what alcoholism is like on a day to day basis. As a recovering alcoholic now and when I used to drink I loved this song. Long before I ever had met my wife and we had our children. This song will never “blow over in time” for me that’s for sure! 🤣 also Cold War kids are such a great band. 🤙😎

Me too man. The summer this album came out I was in full alcoholism. I finally quit in 2014. I used to listen to this song drunk and think that poor guy. He’ll never get to drink again. This song just came up on my recommendations and haven’t listened to it since I quit drinking And was just wondering what the comments were going to say. Thanks for sharing your similar story. 😎👍🏻

Man, this song. As an addict myself, even though alcohol isn't my drug of choice like in the song, this is still one of my favorite musical depictions of addiction. It really captures that feeling of helplessness as you watch your drug use ruin your life, yet the only way you have to cope with any of it is to use more drugs

I watched "Maid" on Netflix the other day. The husband who is initially seen as a horrible man but then is portrayed as a man with a good heart struggling w/ a drinking addiction reminded me a lot of this song. Phenomenal song and a phenomenal show. It was a missed opportunity for them not to use this song. But I guess it wasn't his story..

Simply beautiful. Draws a stark parallel between the idea of the "functional alcoholic" and his denial of his problem. Anyone struggling right now, listening to this, you aren't broken. You have beauty, just like this song, but a problem to overcome. Ours just looks like a drink

I love the message behind this song. He's so desperately trying to justify his slovenly actions and total disregard for his family. The alcoholism isn't want gets him, it's his own selfishness. He thinks that if he just keeps his head low and does whatever he wants, the consequences won't matter.

I remember in 2008 when I was 6 I got a MP3 player and my mom put a bunch of her music on it and this was one of the songs. During the time my dad was on a deployment to Iraq and the events happening there were broadcasted on the news so I thought this was a song about service members and war and now looking back it’s kinda funny to see how my 6 year old self saw songs and the world. (P.S. my dad made it back and went on another development during 2012 to Afghanistan and also made it back ok) (P.P.S. He is a us marine)
