I was not see that coming. However it was to be expected! After the bending back and forth the shock to the spine whacks made it fail. Still...i would call that very impressive for such a long blade

Of course the knife was going to break eventually, no surprise there, but the real winner here is the triad lock, Amazing. This is why I love - and carry - tough, over-built knives for EDC. It's not that I'm GOING to do this kind of stuff, but I love knowing that I COULD. Also, if it can stand up to abuse like this, I have ZERO worries it's going to fail on me during regular use.

Use a lanyard tied to the base and wrapped around your hand to help keep from riding up on to the blade when stabbing solid objects. 1/2" thick nylon webbing works well. Eventually it all gets fuctup and somebody gets severely cut, but it can help to reduce the chances.

That's why I love CRYO 8AUS...&10 AUS .. they have very high tensile strength compared to many of the new so-called super steels.. no they may not hold an edge quite as long as super steels.. but they hold a decent edge. And you can beat the hell out of them..

I'm really surprised that didn't go significantly better than the drop point model. It seems the leverage of a 6" blade is just too much stress for AUS-10 to be used in prying. They could swap to 4034 to survive a test like this but I'd still much rather have AUS10 in my EDC knife.

what an abuse test....most of us users won't dare to do that, we just think about it :) Thanks for testing for us and sharing. Unfortunate about the tip - I think this tanto should not break under this situation, but anyways the knife held up much more than I can dream of. Does not matter the tip break - the important part is the lock that keeps you safe. Goood job!

I wonder if all the tip pounding made the tip more susceptible to early snapping. Fracture lines can travel from carbide cluster to cluster and the tip pounding might have started the process early. Heat treatment is supposed to result in tiny, evenly distributed carbides for lower propensity to fracture. But steels will still fracture, few knife steels bend when the name of the game is edge retention first and foremost. The remainder of the blade held up much better to your abuse. For that length of blade and handle with that much leverage and your fracking beatdowns it did well. I would personally trust it as much in a one off survival combat situation as much as a fixed knife; I'd be the weak kink, not the tool. For routine woodsperson chores, where hard use adds up over the years due to repetition, fixed blade all the way, plus recourse to the right tools, such as saws and axes. Do you recommend tanto or clip in the 4", 5", 6" folders.

11:40 I like the new pommel on the Voyager Tanto. It makes the hand not slide of the handle 🤣😂. I also liked how the handle broke off after hitting it with the rock 😋👌. Funny and I didn't expect it to break off like that. I have hit that handle on the Voyager a few times on the side with a chisel as a test. And there were no indents. But this is a major break off. To test the edge, chop it into dry hardwood, like beechwood. And then twist the knife sideways. It fucked up the edge on a Voyager Large CP .

You know im watching this for a second time. I was thinking about a clown on KZread I was arguing with. He was going on about quality and hard use. Then he shows a 3inch blade with a frame lock. But what blows my mind is the prices. I carry coldsteel my most expensive knife was a large Espada g10 in xhp, my favorite. But my everyday carry is a voyager. I paid like $60 for on sale. I just can't understand these guys pay $500 for brittle stainless or soft heat treatment so it won't chip up. I just don't get it.

It is my opinion the AUS10A steel isn't durable enough or else is harder to heat treat. The tip of the knife being thinner on all knives, it might be getting hotter than the rest of the blade. So far I've watched you test many CS knives and many fail at the same points (lol) with the tip. I have CS knives dating back to the 1980s and I doubt they would break because I never broke or chipped a blade. A friend did have a 1990s San Mai VG1 mini tanto folder that he wrecked the edge on by cutting jute backed carpet at his job. Even I couldn't fix it. Keep up the great vids.
