I have both this knife and the Cold Steel 4MAX Scout (AUS10). Both of them are carried on a regular basis, I have one or the other in my pocket at all times. I prefer the toughness you get with the lite models over the edge retention in the more premium ones in S35VN as I use them in more of an impact role for outdoors, and the ability to easily maintain them in the field is great as well. If they ever come out with 3V premium ones than I'll probably step up at that point but for my use they are awesome as is. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

i carry both also - i like the sr1 because its boxy and fits well in the jeans but the 4max scout is great also great pocket carry - its wide but i seriously forget its there - i just put all the other junk in the left pocket so the scout can be on its own :-)

Red LocTite for the win. Cold Steel must spec the perfect balance of blade toughness vs edge wear for their heat treat. This isn't a pocket knife. It's a fixed blade that breaks down for pocket carry without a sheath.

100% facts right here. I only trust a knife if Joe has reviewed it...and it did well. I gotta know if my knife can destroy a car, break a brick, and survive cutting a train track in half. (Sure Maybe a bit of sarcasm, but Joe's durability test are the most extreme I've ever seen, and they are great!)

This knife is so good! Even though it is a beast, it is also a really good cutter! Slices cardboard and preps food surprisingly well-the high saber grind is actually slicey! The tip is dead center, perfect for drilling. The handle is great and I actually carved a spoon with it! Also, for a budget steel, it really holds an edge-Cold Steel’s heat treatment is next level. Also, Joe, keep up the great work! A channel like this will push knife quality and sort out the junk!

I've had my SR1 Clip point since Christmas. It's my go to beater knife around the yard & house, replacing my well worn CRKT M21SFG. On top of that I've been taking it camping and it's performed very well as a folding camp knife. It's strong enough to treat it like a small fixed blade & I haven't found any major hotspots. It's become a must-take-along knife this summer, leaving my other go-to models, Benchmade 275 Adamas & Spyderco Manix 2 S30V, at home. Edge retention is a little lacking against cardboard & other household materials but it's adequate for outdoor/camping/firemaking needs.

What i love abt these kinda knives from cold steel is you get something that will take and hold an edge and will stand up to a very unrealistic beating and all for under 50 bucks. For people who like me just carry knives as a tool its great knowing i have essentially a fixed blade in my pocket that even if it is lost or broken i can replace it no problem vs being out 200 bucks

i bought this knife to carry with me on a 3D shoots with bow. When an arrow gets stuck in a tree sometimes or in a branch i use it to dig out the arrow. It can be used as a prybar as well as the knife. But when i started using this knife it quickly became my favorite and i use it pretty much everywhere where a folding knife is needed. My favorite use for it is to cut ice cream. when you get a bucket from deep freeze, it is as hard as stone. This knife is perfect to cut out the chunk of ice cream easily. Any kitchen knife or a spoon would break or bend. Love the sr1 lite!

I have this model and the tanto one. I prefer the clip point a lot. I carry it a lot a home just in my pocket (usually don't mess with the clip). Great "beater" do anything knife since it's easier to carry than a fixed blade and is so inexpensive, $35! Half the price of the Civivi. I've found the edge retention perfectly fine. I keep thinking about dropping the $120 for the premium version but can't really justify it.

@@fluffylittlebear Purely aesthetics - I'm just not a fan of tantos as just a personal preference. I guess the only real thing would be that since tanto blades have no curve they're a little harder to cut food (et al) on a flat surface since you can't really rock the blade back and forth.
