COLD SHOCK, Cessna Citation Flight From Key Largo to Iowa City

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Pilot Vlog 163. This is a flight in the Cessna Citation XLS private jet to the Ocean Reef Club Airport on Key largo, Florida. We departed late so we arrived after dark and then we spend a couple of days at the hotel. While there we stay at the Miami Marriott Dadeland and then fly to Iowa City, IA. Due to low clouds and reduced visibility we fly the RNAV 25 instrument approach till we see the runway for a landing. Both the landings and takeoffs include the ATC radio communications between the pilots and controllers in the flying sequences. When we get to Iowa City there is snow on the ground and the wind chill is -25. We take on fuel then fly the Citation back to St Louis.

  • @captmoonbeam

    @captmoonbeam

    6 жыл бұрын

    We do have procedures for engine failure before and after V1. V2 is bugged on the airspeed indicator and we normally accelerate through it right after takeoff as we bring the nose up to 10 degrees. "V2" by itself would be a single engine callout.

    So when you go from a warmer climate to the bitterly cold Midwest, how does that impact ice forming on the wings? I remember you talking about the heated cuffs on the wings but wasn’t sure if it was like that for every plane you fly. Great video!

  • @captmoonbeam

    @captmoonbeam

    6 жыл бұрын

    When you fly into very cold areas, icing isn't much of a problem because there's very little moisture in the air and what is there is already ice. When you have lots of moisture and the temps are just at freezing is when icing tends to be the worst.

    it's the limitation of the camera view. The gopro is next to my head so you normally don't see my hands on the yoke. But you always see the other pilot manipulating the comm switch on the yoke. That's why it always looks like he's flying. We normally switch every other leg. On this trip I flew the night leg into 07FA(no video due to very few lights at night there), I did the next leg to Iowa City and Mike flew the last leg.

    I never noticed that wire antenna that leads from the tail to mid-fuselage.you have on N2Q. What radio frequency is that for? Was planes have it, and some don't. Also, why would planes similar to yours require a yaw damper when the engines are located so close together and at the rear of the plane? I thought yaw was only prevalent on prop planes.

    It's for the HF radio. Very common in remote areas and for ocean crossings. If you never flew out places with good VHF radio coverage you probably wouldn't spend the money for one.

    How often do you swab the wings? Can you clean a jet with soap and a pressure washer or is there more to it?

  • @captmoonbeam

    You have to be carefull with high pressure water. So we don't use a pressure washer. We're due for a wash.

    We did that day because we had a stiff crosswind. When we take off, we're focused looking down the runway. When I go back and watch the video out the pilots side window I'm always surprised by how fast the trees are flying by.
