Grant being a man with no cruelty in him, who couldnt take the sight of blood and couldn't tolerate cruelty to animals. Battles like c.h. must have wracked him with pain. However he had the forsight to know that this was the only way to end the war with any quickness. My favorite American of the 19th century.

Thank you very much for sharing this and your knowledge of the events. Just discovered that my great-great grandfather fought at this battle for the Union side. He suffered a wound to the leg.

I live near Cold Harbor. It’s sad a lot of the battlefield has become townhouses and apartments. There’s a creek near there where confederate and Union forces exchanged fire with one another but where the battlefield was is now a subdivision on one side and apartments on the other.

They need to do like they did the apts up 360 in on the Richmond side of the swamp. They built apts inside of the union works there and it's extremely well preserved by the apts residents

As a kid, found many artifacts around that area..all farm fields and woods..not like that now..The creek is probably Beaver Dam Creek..once was all fields and woods..now totally developed..don't think there is even a marker there for commemoration...sad..
