Thanks heaps for the reaction. Love this band and this song. You should check out Cold Chisel “bow river” live Ringside 2003 and you will see one of best live performances of the use of a harmonica ever

He mentions a "sapper", thats an "engineer" in the Army.. David Blight is playing harmonica, he is an Adelaide boy as well.. still plays around town.. This get drunkenly sung at every pub and football club in Australia every week haha.. (especially the end refrain of "Last Plane Out Of Sydney...") Hi, liked and subscribed, from Adelaide, South Australia.. Home town of Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel!!

This was Chisel’s first album. Khe Sanh is probably their most iconic song, often considered an unofficial Australian anthem. That said, it’s not representative of their whole career, and the albums “East” and “Circus Animals” contain most of their more popular songs. These guys are quite varied in their style too, so you really have to dive down the rabbit hole in order to get a good feel for what this band’s about. A few songs I’d recommend as a starting point: Bow River (live 2003) Flame Trees (official video) Star Hotel (official video) When the War is Over (live 2003) You Got Nothing I Want (official video) Saturday Night (official video) It’s a crime that the band didn’t get along with their international label in the early 80s and never got their shot at conquering North America, but when they turned their back on that opportunity and dedicated their career to Australia and NZ, they created something very special and became one of Australia’s most important and popular rock bands.

Thanks for reacting to 'Cold Chisel' - truly the greatest Rock band you've never heard. This is a legendary Australian rock band, that although having massive supporter base and being beloved for 50 years in Oz, are known little outside these shores. Their live shows are legendary, songwriting greatness from all 5 band members and the unique vocal pairing of Jimmy Barnes (singer) and Ian Moss (guitarist) make every song an amazing journey. The discography is huge, but here are a couple of songs to get you started. Bow River - Live 2003 Ringside tour - a pure pub rock / blues based song that builds and soars and just keeps raising the bar. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hpiKtLB9nrexhLg.html&ab_channel=BruceBarber Wild Thing - Live 1983 The Last Stand tour - even though they were breaking up at the time, still at the top of their game. This cover of The Troggs classic is quite possibly the greatest live rock track ever recorded. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ao5qtMyOmZbYnag.html&ab_channel=GlennThomas When the War is Over - Live 2003 Ringside Tour - an Australian classic track. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmiL2dNyj93Uj8Y.html&ab_channel=ColdChisel

The harp player was usually someone outside of the band. In live performances it was mostly, David Blight, one of the meanest players i've ever heard. You can see him at his best in the live performance of Bow River (Ringside). If not that performance, check out their version of Wild Thing at The Last Stand concerts. Cold Chisel is one of the greatest live rock bands ever, every member wrote songs despite having one of Australia's best songwriters in piano player, Don Walker, they had two lead singers in Ian Moss and Jim Barnes, and they played multiple genres.

"Deisel" is Jimmie Barnes' brother in law and played in his first band post Cold Chisel. I know that later in Chisels career the Harmonica was played by a guy named Dave Blight. I know this only because Jimmie would give him a shout out on stage whenever he played. So I'm not sure it was him in this video because this is pretty much their first single ever but it easily could be.

@@espereactions2David Blight has always been the Harmonica player with Cold Chisel, in studio (this song and all albums) and on most tours. 45 plus ➕️ years as a guest player. Met him at my local Pub when he played in his own band (a blues type ensemble) ironically the pub was run by the cousin of Cold Chisel"s Bass player.

Johnny Diesel and Jimmy Barnes became brothers-in-law after Diesel married Jimmy Barnes wifes, sister, Barnes' sister in law in 1989. Also, another singer in the family, John "Swanee" Dixon Swan is Jimmy Dixon Barnes older brother. Takes a bit to get ya head around it. A lot of singing talent in that family.

Cold Chisel were a complete band that played all musical genres......or at least used them in their music when the song NEEDED it . The piano player, Don Walker , was their musical leader and yet the band started out doing Heavy Metal, then country etc etc. Nothing worked for them commercially until they tried basic hard rock.....live. A 5 piece band that is rock solid and tight.....they all sing and they all write hit songs, especially the slower ballads. Their live shows are pure rock, but many of their most popular songs and music are slow ballads. Live they a wild and often feral, but on record they are more refined and " respectable"......leed singer Jimmy Barnes tends to be wilder, louder and more " bluesy" live but uses his sweeter rock voice for recordings.

Hi, You've actually stumbled onto the official video and original video/single of ''Khe Sanh''. I'm glad you've checked out the band's first single. It's good to start with Cold Chisel on where it began. Below are the best quality Cold Chisel videos that are available on KZread. Please copy and paste these titles. Unfortunatley, you will not get videos of this quality on Cold Chisel official channel. These clips are merged with stereo tracks, but are elusive when searching for them on youtube. You will also get a lot of requests for live Cold Chisel. What I provided above are the official videos with a couple of TV appearances. Again, I urge you to keep this list and check out these titles. Some of these titles were their hits. This will give you a solid idea as to what Chisel were about on as a studio and commercial band. Of course, there are must-see live footage like Wild Thing (Last Stand) which I highly recommend. Too many reactors which shonky Cold Chisel videos. I'm trying to have new reactors avoid this...

@@robrichards585 Shonky may not be the right word. I'm just trying to make my post easy to read, I guess. But I do think that those aged sounding clips do not represent the songs as well as the list above. I just wish Cold Chisel provided better quality videos, because it's their uploads that rise to the top. I'm working at getting reactors onto better quality clips. I agree.. shonky isn't the right word, but I think what I have provided above is a lot more suitable and beneficial to the reactor.
