They were not jokes they were very nasty and hurtful insinuations - especially as he knew Kate had had major surgery.

Colbert's comedy style borders on sexual innuendo, almost always in his monolog. Bringing up an unproven rumor about an affair by Prince William was a low blow, even by comedy standards. I believe he is in the Prince Harry court, so anything that would benefit the Harkles is something he would take part in. Lady Rose Hanbury has sent a legal notice to Colbert, hope he will now leave that unfounded rumor alone. Facts and conspiracy theory are two different things Colbert, and by the way, saying you were sorry that you stooped that low would/should have came out of your mouth instead of the half assed apology of sorts.

Unfortunately the likes of Colbert think the likes of the British Royal Family is fair game to mock and lie about, as A) they rarely complain let alone get a lawyer involved and B) he is never ever likely to meet them in real life so will never have to apologise in person. Now had it been a big Hollywood Movie start he had lied about/insulted A) their lawyers would be all over him and B) he would risk not only the boycotting his show but any other A list Hollywood actor. It's a shame that no British actor tackles him live on air about his behaviour, although I suspect it would hit the cutting room floor!

I have been a huge fan for years but this episode changed my mind. I would ask Stephen to ask his beloved wife if she had cancer, how would she feel if he brought up the rumor that he had an affair with another lady. Words matter! They can bring so much hurt, and especially when the rumors are not true! He’s now off my list of favorites.

This is not about Catherine, the Princess of Wales having cancer, he did not know that when he was making jokes bout her. However, he did make jokes about her while she was absent and recovering from major surgery, which for me, was unkind and unnecessary. Last night, he explained how his jokes work, he did not offer an apology. He may have eluded to it being in poor taste, but nothing he said was heartfelt.

These people have to consider that there are innocent children who are harmed by having the world gossiping about their parents possible extramarital affairs. That's traumatizing for the entire family and children especially. I am glad Rose C. has called in the lawyers . maybe that will put a stop to it.

Why would the Royal children be watching Colbert, and American chat show host? Furthermore, Rose C. hasn't put a stop to this. Princess Kate's unfortunate diagnosis has. Colbert is not a monster...and it would be in bad taste for him to continue making jokes about her marriage now that she's fighting this horrible disease.

Even if he didn't know she was being treated for cancer, she'd been in hospital for 2 weeks. Clearly she was dealing with something serious.

Thanks for bringing all this footage together. Poor Stephen getting bashed for doing his job, doing it well at that. The video was longer than it needed to be. I would cut the guy sitting at home on the couch whimpering and blathering. Didn't see his relevance to any of it.

He did not apoblogize that means he is not sorry. So as for his wishing her good health, it was said to stop the backlash and outrage about his disgusting behavior. I don't believe it is sincere.

Next time, play a whole statement before your breakdown. Or at least play complete sentences first. Without hearing the whole statement it is a.hard to follow. And b. Raises suspicions that you could have omitted sections. It was so frustrating that I stopped watching to look for the complete clip elsewhere.

What sort of despicable person (in a boring, and totally unhumerous monologue) repeats very old gossip that has since been debunked by the original spreader and at a time when Catherine was recovering from major surgery. Can’t have had too much of a good effect on her recovery process. And then to top it off, doesn’t even have the decency to offer a decent apology when it’s later revealed that Catherine is actually having chemo for a recently discovered cancer. Furthermore doesn’t have the manners to refer to her by her preferred name. A person must be a real lowlife if they can find humour in the suffering of another human being. Better finish up now because my skin is starting to crawl just thinking about such a person

I have always loved watching Cobert. That was a terrible explanation from him. Cobert's comments had attorney smear all over them. Shame on him. This is a first for me, but shame on him for this. He has many other ways to get people to laugh without doing what he did.

He's allowed to have whoever he wants as friends, and he doesn't write all his own jokes. Legal action will fall pretty flat since it was without malice and not meant seriously. This is why Hannity, Pirro etc get away with defamation...because it is opinion, they aren't trying to state realities like when Dominion took FOX to the cleaners. I do believe he can do better and he does write some good stuff with his team.
