The view is gone from the parking lot, so sad. I grew up a block and a half from the Tower. There is a trail on the west side of the Tower and how it got there. I saw a man trying to get his wife's wheel chair up the steps to the Tower, I ran over and offered to help. This was 1966 and I was 9 years old. It bothered me so much that I looked for a way people could get to the Tower without going up the steps. And this is the route I tramped out. At the time the Gardner was a mean old SOB and he lost his mind, hitting me and yelling at me as he hit me. So months later we got a new Gardner named John, such a nice man that Mama's named a sandwich for him, John the Gardner. One day I showed him what I had started and why, he likes it and went to work to finish it, it was was done in 1967.
