That fighting in the field is a good example of how most combat goes. You rarely see the enemy, you only return fire from the direction they are shooting from. Thats why it took 250,000 rounds to take down 1 insurgent during the Afghanistan war. Its not like Call of Duty or the movies.

Yeh, I often say it to people who go like "where the enemy at", to take a friend and ask him to stand at one end of a football field. Now imagine your friend about three times that distance away and you get a good idea of what "close contact" is considered irl.

I’m 21 old Ukrainian in U.S. and I understand how helpful I would be if I would serve in international brigades in Ukraine, helping foreigners translate on the battlefields, but I’m scared to die, this war is terrifying. And Ukraine can legally mobilize you if you are over 27 y.o only, will we how life will go

Man it's just so hard to understand where the enemy is as far as where to shoot. It's also surprising the gunner switches to different drivers. You'd think a continuous working relationship with 1 gunner 1 driver would allow for greater effectiveness. The chaos and unknown scares me the most.

@@G.W-01mrap is an umbrella term for a multitude of vehicles. As the U.S. army doesn’t even have JLTVs force wide Ukraine definitely doesn’t have any. These are actually British MXT-MV MRAPs, pretty old vehicles having been used since early 2010s.

that's typically how real combat works. You don't have game elements like a minimap, squad chat or anything like that. You get whatever you can through your radio, have your maps and the knowledge of the area in your head and that's it.

You'd think every soldier would have like a Google translate device or something. And why don't they have a map? Why is there not AI generated combat zones on a iPad being fed by fpv? Like, I know that sounds hi tech, but don't people always say tech is first developed for the military and then finds its way into commercial space, like superimposed maps and translator apps are old now. This seems chaotic. I thought western armies would have much better tech by now. To think we would be anywhere near having robots deployed on the battlefield 😂 maybe all the west's military advancement is being held back by another entity besides just plain greed and incompetence.
8:46 really got me, but there were many moments, where I was just admiring your tough nerves, the way you handle situations is very inspiring.

Looks like a live training event imo. When he says contact that's all you get. What direction is the contact coming from, what distance, and what type and size of contact do you see??? all in all its a massive cluster of confusion, lack of communication, and situational awareness.

On one hand I like that the videos are confusing because that's how it is for the people living it, but on the other it would be really cool to have some illustration showing where the enemy is and what the mission objective is.

@@eriklarson9137 I ain't saying that no one ever knows bro, I'm saying that if the guys that send the footage are the soldiers that filmed it, and they don't know what is happening it is high unlikely that we could ever got an overlay of what is happening. One thing is situations like the house with the spetznaz group, there u could of course speculate where the guys where during the fight. Other is the mrap videos, where they usually are at open fields or under ambushes, so it is almost impossible to tell the enemy position

watching that again, I think the reason it missed was because he told the driver to slow down. if he kept going at the same speed they might have gotten clipped

Even if he slowed even more than he did, they still would’ve been clipped had they just been a couple feet to the left.. you can see a perfect strafe going clear across that road.. granted that the majority of the blast was to the front and slightly to the right. It still hit the whole road.. You know the Russians were in complete disbelief that shot missed if they were watching it live from a drone tho!! Lol, they had to be pissed that they were so close, yet so far at the same time!! Would’ve loved to see the looks on all their faces when they realized that they didn’t hit crap, at least with that round anyways!!

@@codin4no, by the shape of the blast it was definitely a shaped charge, landed short and detonated on the ground, you can tell by how long and skinny the explosion is

The best way in combat is to set your group to the one type of language or commands. They could pick a language of numbers instead, but numbers sounds different on different languages

Gunners need some magnetic containers/pouches or magnets to customize their containers/pouches for use in the turret armor. Another thing (idk if it’d work) would be some kind of brass deflector attached via magnet

It's usually on the cradle mount and stays lined up with the gun, so you don't have to worry about your ammo belts binding like he was.

Erwin Rommel a decorated field marshal in the German Army during World War 2 actually you used to write down the lessons he learned after every battle he fought in when he was a lieutenant during World War 1 so he could better understand what to better next time in a similar situation.

He's out of the marine corps due to health problems, he's been to foreign fighting groups in iraq and syria and ukraine where he was in a combat unit, but now only trains people

Well, I think we are used to footage of wars where the US has been involved (Afghanistan/Iraq). The US has the highest military budget in the entire world. Not every country can afford high-end military technology over a long period of time.
