Coffee and a Chat - Revoslot, it's not a Slot.It

Follow up to some discussion in the chat on ‪@trackfanstv‬ Sunday Slot Car Sessions where several people reported issues with their new Revoslots.
I don't think the issue is the car...

Brilliant video, Dave. It's nice to hear someone speak up and [gently] explain that the "common wisdom" doesn't necessarily apply in all cases. A lot of folks base their tuning on what someone else does, even though their track may be totally different - or buy replacement parts before they even try a new car out to see what it needs. Excellent job here!

Excellent explanation there!!!! PLUS watch out that the cables don't press the body up via the inlet, the minimum rattle in the rear is very important

Wow, just wow. Were you inhabiting my basement this past weekend? I spent a good deal of time tuning my Datsun 510 (motor break in, gear mesh, body float) and couldn't crack the code on tire rub. This is excellent. Great video on how we have to unlearn some things and think differently. I also ordered some Paul Gage urethanes for all my Grp 2s. Wanna give them a go.

Hi Dave ....i have my Escort running great since i set it up last week ..the motor needed a little adjusting but now she runs sweet ....same as my BRMs need a little fettling but i have them all running sweet , my TTS fiat is a different story so I haven't did much to it yet but its a weird car and wouldn't be my favorite. The only problem i have with my Revoslots and BRMs is the soft heads on the motor mount screws ( even with gentle hand torque)and i also think this is a problem with folk not knowing exactly what size to use wither it's torx or allen head ...another thing lacking in communication from Revoslot/BRMs...great post and im sure it helped many frustrated folk 👍

Great explanation Dave. I totally agree to that what you`ve said. But, moreover there is one point i do not understand with that Revoslot system. The chassis hight set up is quite high. Why do they do that? The center of gravity of the car could be much better with less ground clearance and thus the tipping point. There is no way to set this, or am i wrong? Different axle holders in combination with other body holders would be the solution. People often adjust that with self made shims under the axle holders and body holders. All the best, Carsten

Very good video. To me if a person is having "problems" with a new slot car,and moan about the car or the manufacturer to the wider community, then they are missing the ethos of our hobby.Ootb,check,test,tune,repeat.I disagree that its the manufacturers fault, unfortunately in this modern world the"someone else is to blame for my problems"syndrome is all too prevalent.

The trouble here is, people who only usually buy toy cars with magnets and plastic wheels that you can't adjust have seen this car and wanted it without anyone at all telling them that not all slot cars are the same as the one brand they've previously stuck to. It is not unreasonable to expect there to be some published literature from the manufacturer at least somewhere that could be referred to. Slot car companies on the whole are terrible at communication, revoslot especially so, they don't even update their own website all that often .. the lime green Kadett, the Quadri 911, pretty much none of the cars they've released in the last 6 months have even been added to their website, they only post on their Facebook page about once every three months... not really a brand in touch with it's customers is it?

Yeah I have a few full sized money pits too! I don't think people should stick to the home set brands but they should certainly be more aware of the leap they're making from "set up for you" to "set up mostly but tweak it" with Revoslot and "here's the bits assembled, you set it up how you like" for brands like Policar and NSR, then things are a lot less painful for the consumer. It's in the manufacturer's interests to do this but they don't and it's baffling.
