I’m sorry are we just going to forget that awful storyline that he had with QT Marshall, Anthony Ogogo, and that 50/50 booking with Malakai Black? His booking of his character wasn’t exactly great considering he had the most control. Don’t remind me of that awful attempt starting a feud with American Top Team with that Brandi Rhodes promo. I think the fans were exactly ungrateful the entire time.

@@charliesanches7922Brother he wrote himself out of any future main title shots EVER and preceded to attempt to elevate the-then new talent. It wasn’t about him booking a character. He was building something that would exist after him.

@@notTORYY That’s not entirely true. Yes, he elevated the secondary title and up in coming young talents AFTER he booked himself out the world title. He admitted himself too that he regretted the decision but at the time he did what felt what was right. Plus he said that he didn’t want to have EVP status and just be talent but took the leadership role to get AEW off the ground. So he’s not entirely blameless of the crowd reaction. He had influence in his booking and his decision to book himself like that. And once you add the allure of big stars like Punk, Cole, and Danielson he’s status as a top star was going to drop as a result and he knew that. I mean Punk alluded to that fact this past Monday on Raw during their promo.

tbf aew fans have a small problem with being overly zealous smarks and they wouldn't give Cody even an inch unless he turned heel and to his credit he stuck to his guns and probably had the biggest return in WWE history.

I loved Cody before Aew, during Aew and now after Aew and I'll continue to enjoy his work.

I grew respecting dusty, hating goldust but respecting him because of his dad. Then seeing Cody moonsault off of cages in a weekly tv show, he became a favorite of mine. I would watch them give him terrible gimmick after terrible gimmick. Seeing him become a superstar in his own terms… fuck being a smark. We’re watching a guy make a real mark on the business

Went from WWE, ROH, NJPW, IMPACT (Now TNA), AEW and then back to WWE. Full circle.

I want to mention that Cody's promo is literally a shot/burial of punk. but Cody told Punk beforehand, and it seems like Punk allowed it because there is not drama between them. Just saying! for those that say Cody and/or punk are unprofessional cancers. they seem pretty chill as long as its talked out

I never took it as a shot or burial of Punk. I took it as a shot at the fans. Whenever Cody said the promo, I took it as him saying “I did all of the things you said you wanted, but you’re upset because it wasn’t the guy you wanted to do it.” He never faulted Punk for being away, he just pointed out that he happened to do everything he (Punk) said he wanted to do.

Right, Phil only has drama and fallout with basically everyone he’s ever worked with or for by coincidence. And Cody is a sellout. The only reason he’s getting anything now in WWE is because Vince isn’t running the show, and Paul is only slightly less petty than his in-law.

With what happened on Monday with Punk and Cody, this makes the AEW promo even sweeter.

I just watched a video from one of my favorite KZreadrs that hasn't made content in pretty much a decade (Spoony) but in a Vlog from 2011 when they mentioned Cody, it really made me realize "dang, you never know where someone will go"

Cody didn't wrestle much in AEW, but he was playing that EVP role hard. You can tell his absence in the company even if it's not something specific.

I'm not huge into wrestling and I asked someone if he was holding that thing together... Everyone assumes I mean wrestling wise (which was probably not true) but backstage, managing egos, all the little stuff you need to do. You can see a clear difference from when he was there and when he left imho

Cody had the most control over his character. After his tnt title run he booked himself into a fued with the factory. QT Marshall, really? Also it was 2021-22 not 1993 why did he book an American vs England storyline with Ogogo. That weigh in, awful. How do you get behind a guy when he’s clearly trying to force something the fans aren’t going to like. Obviously the company was changing because of the arrival of Punk and Danielson and more stars that were going to get more spotlight than him considering where was floating on the card. This was much of Cody’s fault than just the fans.

Cody was garbage in AEW. His feuds didn’t make sense and were all over stupid shit. America vs the UK? That’s just a minor example. Cody was continuously in and out of the company doing his stupid ass wanna be reality star bullshit. And he really had the nerve to see Punk come in and do everything he could to raise the brand and it’s viewership and buzz and start fuckin cryin? They really want Tony to blow all of his dads money just to have a “wrestling” company for all of their friends to have fun and do whatever they want and get paid more than they’ll ever be worth to do it. Cody should hurry up and go back to the sinking ship with his butt buddies and praise Jesus and whatever fake ass shit they do

That was his best promo ever.

Cody leaving was a big reason I started to lose interest in AEW’s prospects. Then Punk left and I was sure they didn’t care about utilizing their potential. It’s a clubhouse for friends. The Acclaimed shouldn’t be as cold as they are. Wardlow and Hobbs had pointless start and stops constantly. Even Ricky Starks has been utterly wasted there. I can’t wait to see him in a different setting either WWE or maybe TNA and see what happens because he’s really good

Before that promo, CM punk started to leave the bad taste in my mouth. But after that promo, I lost every bit of respect for CM punk. Because it showed that CMP was all talk, while Cody actually put his money where his mouth is! And that’s where I respected a whole lot into this day

Honestly, what cemented AEW for me was the match between him and his brother...

I got in to aew because of cody. Its total horse shit now
