Cody and Sylvain Answering Common Bernina Questions

I had the pleasure of sitting down with my friend of many years Slyvain Bergeron. We have been wanting to sit down and chat forever now and we finally found the time. Here we chat about many problems/questions our customers encounter.

Apart from my local Bernina dealer you two guys are my favourite go-to persons when I have an issue or need inspiration. So seeing the two of you together on this nice vibe is so nice. More! We want more of Cody and Sylvain!

I have a 2006 Bernina 200/730E, which I love, especially for garment sewing. I also have a Pfaff Creative Performance with built-in IDT (dual feed). I’ve owned several different models of Pfaff machines over the 50+ years I’ve been sewing, and I’ve never needed a walking foot with any of them. The IDT system is superior to Bernina’s built-in dual feed in my opinion. I worked for a Bernina retailer for about three years and sold many top-end machines. I also taught classes, including Mastery classes. So I’m very familiar with the dual feed function. Based on this experience, Pfaff has perfected their dual-feed system, and I use my Pfaff for both piecing and quilting. No walking foot required!

Sylvain, you have made some great videos and I watch them all IF I can find them! A few can be found on KZread, but it sure would be nice if they were all on KZread. I've gone to the Bernina sites, looked under every sub menu and just can't find them. For instance, you did one on threading, someone on the Bernina 7 and 8 series FB group recently was having threading and breakage problems. I thought it would help if she watched your video on threading but I simply couldn't find it to link it to her post. Please make all your videos easier to find, they would really help educated everyone. Cody, yours videos are easy to find on KZread! I've watched them all! Thanks for this video, it was great!

Great information. I had/have a Pfaff before purchasing my Bernina 790. I've had dual feed for years and years. My dealer reminded me before I left the store about the bobbin winder. You two put on a great show with lots of information. I'm going to rewatch and listen again about the wonky stitches.

Hi Cody & Sylvain - on the bobbin winder engaging at startup, Bernina Jeff in Colorado makes a 3D printed bobbin winder protector that you slip on prior to draping your machine with the dust cover. Keeps your winder safe & no more, 'uh-oh what's that noise' at startup. Thanks again for the great video!

Great Video. Extremely helpful for someone who has recently moved to a Bernina 590 from another another "dual feed" system. I am amazed at how well I've adjusted to my Bernina - mainly due to watching this video with Cody and Sylvain! I highly recommend getting the walking foot - it works great with the dual feed system on my 590.

I've got a Virtuosa 160 Plus which I've had for 20 years but never oiled it as it says in the manual not to!? It's my reserve machine so only used occasionally. Also, I tried to read in the transcript exactly what Sylvain said about the straight stitch on that machine but couldn't quite work it out but I think the gist of it was that it's a workhorse with a great straight stitch?!

Cody, I have a Bernette b79 that I purchased about 3 years ago and I can barely use. I've been watching your videos and trying to figure things out. Do you have a video for the JB invisible zipper foot tutorial? I have no idea how to use it install this piece. I'm a pretty advanced sewist, but this fancy machine I begged for is over my head.

Wonderful video. I had no idea that I needed to adjust the height on the free motion quilting feet. Will Bernina ever make a 9 mm walking foot? I want to quilt with wide decorative stitches, and the dual feed just doesn’t work well enough.

Love you guys - I learn so much! I have a 475 QE and I use the thread cutter, BUT when I start to sew my next seam on my garment, I get a small nest of thread under the first couple of stitches. Is this normal or can i adjust something? I know I could go back to the old school system of needle up, needle down and hang on to the threads to start.....but I want to use the thread cutter feature. Thankyou.

Love these vieos! Question: When you have a thread break during embroidery, does the 790 make a Tie-on when it starts stitching again? I saw a video where someone was embroidering a Satin Stitch, and he simulated a thread break. But when he restarted, the machine did not make a Tie-on.

It's going to vary a bit by computer/platform but if you don't immediately see a search box (which you will sometimes) look for a magnifying glass. If you're not sure what various buttons do, most of the time you can hover over it and some text will describe what the button does. Worst case, if you don't have any luck, search KZread for Searching a PDF.
